About the role:

King's College London is seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Administration & Reporting Manager to join the IP & Licensing team that is responsible for the identification, prosecution, marketing and transaction of IP assets arising from research undertaken at King's College London. The IP & Licensing team sits within the recently formed King's Innovation Catalyst (KIC).

The Intellectual Property Administration & Reporting Manager works directly with staff from the IP & Licensing Team and KIC to support the IP prosecution process. Please note most of our IP portfolio is patents and so an understanding of the patent prosecution process and timeline is required. This includes working in partnership with case managers within a designated workstream in managing and implementing the deadlines, decisions and the legal and financial processes associated with IP administration.

Database management and the production of reports for both internal and external stakeholders is a key part of the role. Additionally, you will be expected to liaise with inventors within King's and outside of the College, institutional co-owners of shared IP and external legal counsel/ patent attorneys.

The post holder also administers certain legal agreements associated with the College's IP asset and commercial portfolio, and will assist in the monitoring of commercial agreements "post-deal" to ensure that inward and outward facing contract obligations are adhered to.

We are particularly interested in candidates with knowledge of IP management software such as Minuet (IP Data Management software used at King's) and experience completing external IP and commercialisation reports such as the Higher Education - Business and Community Interaction survey (HE-BCI).

Successful candidates will be expected to plan, execute and report on their activities to a high standard, reporting directly to the leadership of IP & Licensing and KIC.

The ideal candidate will bring significant experience of IP records management and data analytics and reporting within a dynamic commercialisation environment. They will combine strong database management capabilities with an ability to work to exceptional quality standards in delivering performance.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. Educated to first degree level or equivalent

2. Excellent organisational and communication skills

3. Computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and internet use

4. Evidence of significant understanding of technology transfer in an academic environment

5. Detailed understanding of IP protection mechanisms

6. In-depth experience of patent management in a diverse and large patent portfolio

7. Experience using IP data management software such as Minuet

8. Excellent written interpersonal skills plus a willingness to work as an effective part of a team or independently as required

9. Takes ownership of tasks and responsibilities, proactively driving work through to completion and accountability for outcomes

Desirable criteria

1. Paralegal Experience

2. Experience completing, HE-BCI Table 4 and Table 4a

3. Knowledge of Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF)
