About The Role

Are you passionate about enabling people affected by dementia to share their experiences and be heard? If so, then we'd love to hear from you!

Local Involvement activities enable people living with dementia to engage in meaningful activities within a group setting, either online or face-to-face, and to have a voice. They do this by using their experiences to influence the work both of Alzheimer's Society and the health and social care environment on matters to improve the quality of their lives.

You'll help to set up the room and tidy away at the end of the group as well as prepare and hand out refreshments. You'll welcome and talk with people living with dementia and assist them where necessary to engage in Involvement activities and, if supporting an online group, to join in the conversation. Some light administration duties, such as registering attendees or taking meeting notes may also be involved.

The Dementia Voice Local Group meets the first Thursday of every month at:

The volunteer would be expected to be at the venue from 10:00 to 13:00 each month. In addition to the day of the meeting, there may be up to two hours per month of light admin or telephone calls to remind service users of the group dates and times.

You'll be great for the role if you:

  • Are aware of or are interested in learning about dementia and its impact on people, their needs and enabling them to share their experiences.
  • Can demonstrate empathy, compassion and patience.
  • Have good communication skills, especially listening, and are organised.
  • Enjoy meeting new people and being part of a team.
