Investment Trust Oversight Manager

Who we're looking for

Your day job will be responsible for our Investment Trusts official reports and financial statements. You'll have a keen eye (and enough knowledge of annual and interim statutory reporting) to spot any problems, and resolve them.

We need someone who can help develop team members and take responsibility for ensuring the work gets completed and to a high standard. It's a chance to work on lots of projects, with lots of teams, and with several countries.

You'll oversee the financial operations of nine investment trusts, for which the accounting, administration and tax functions have been outsourced to third party service providers. The role also includes the oversight of the Custodian Bank and Depositary appointments as well as engagement with the respective appointed auditors for each Trust. There is opportunity to leverage this knowledge and help out with overseeing other fund structures too.

The base

You'll be based at our Schroders Campus near Horsham in West Sussex. It's home to our EMEA Operations and Technology Operations hub.
It has the same high standards and international reputation as our HQ in the City of London, without being in the city: a big, countryside campus (and no commute on the Tube) means life will feel a little different.

What you'll do

• Oversight of the appointed TPA responsible for production of interim and annual reports and accounts
• The maintenance and enhancement of a sound internal control framework that underpins the technical accounting reviews of financial accounts
• Engage with auditors at a senior level, provide oversight of the audit process, mange and work towards resolution of queries
• Work closely with Company Secretariat across all fund accounting matters, including timetabling, market releases and regulatory returns.
• Attendance and participation at audit committee and fund board meetings
• Keeping abreast of industry and technical developments including analysis and application of regulatory updates e.g. AIC SORP changes
• Mange the control environment and ensure all controls are adhered to with any exceptions escalated in a timely manner
• Manage adherence to group supplier oversight policies
• Preparation and/or review of various financial papers to be considered at board meetings
• Oversight of forecasting, expense budgets and dividend recommendations
• Monitoring and controlling of fund operating expenses and director payroll
• Servicing of bank loans Oversight of corporation tax and VAT returns
• Coach and support colleagues within the team to promote development and enhance individuals skillsets
• Contribute to the delivery of management information and key performance indicators to senior management

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need

• Qualified/part qualified accountant or qualified by experience
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks that effect UK Investment Trusts
• Experience working within a financial reporting function.
• Good with Microsoft applications, including Excel
• Understanding of fund operations and the investment management industry

The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help

• Experience of working on reporting implementation projects
• Experience of managing concurrent workstreams across multiple European locations
• Experience of working in an outsourced fund accounting model
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks across EMEA (UK/Lux/US GAAP)
• Knowledge of other different fund structures; including Unit Trust, OEICs, SICAVs, ICAV and Private asset funds
• Experience of setting workloads and manging priorities
