What your role is

Are you a media innovator ready to make an impact globally? General Mills is looking for a Media Director - Global Media Team to champion a transformative vision, aligned with the International Segment's global strategic objectives established by General Mills' U.S. senior leadership for how our brands connect with consumers.

You will contribute to developing and executing innovative, omni-channel media strategies that elevate General Mills' core brands across various markets (including Brazil, China, Europe & Australia (EUAU) and Global Emerging Markets (GEMs)), in alignment with global guidelines and frameworks. You'll have the opportunity to shape the media landscape, support continuous innovation, and deliver measurable impact for a diverse portfolio of iconic brands, including Haagen-Dazs, Old El Paso, Nature Valley, Wanchai Ferry, Kitano, Blue Buffalo, and more.

By collaborating with talented brand teams, market acceleration teams and agency & industry partners, you'll leverage data and insights to craft integrated plans that drive brand growth and create meaningful connections with consumers through online & offline channels, and emerging platforms.

You will report to the Director, Media, Advanced Marketing Solutions with a dotted line into the VP Marketing, International.

Key Accountabilities:

Act as the Media Visionary: Serve as the go-to expert on paid media and marketplace trends for the International Segment, proactively identifying opportunities and providing strategic insights and recommendations to leadership, ensuring we continue our consumer first approach.

Model Integrated Media Strategies: Consult across paid, owned, and earned digital media channels, providing input and recommendations in alignment with the International Segment's global strategy and collaborating with cross-functional teams and other key stakeholders to deliver cohesive and impactful marketing & media plans.

Optimize Agency Performance: Support the management of the international media agency relationship, and contract negotiations in partnership with Global Sourcing. Ensuring consistent service quality, adherence to standards, and maximum value delivery.

Support Data-Driven Optimization: Partner with Consumer Insights and Growth Analytics teams to evaluate campaign performance, leveraging data to drive agile adjustments and maximize results.

Ensure Compliance and Ethical Standards: Uphold the highest ethical standards in all media activities and partnerships, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.

Champion Media Innovation: Identify and champion innovative test-and-learn opportunities driven by marketplace advancements, recommending these opportunities to the appropriate global teams for consideration and implementation.

Influential Communication: Provide a compelling expert Media POV to the International Marketing community, raising the collective media IQ across the organization and championing change management as media capabilities evolve.

Digital Fluency: Identify and leverage relevant consumer and media performance data, insights, and available technology to enhance media plans and drive innovation.

Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with International Brand Experience teams, the Data-Driven Marketing Team, and other internal/external partners to ensure cohesive and integrated marketing efforts.

Business Application: Develop a deep understanding of General Mills' strategic priorities, segment/brand priorities, consumer behavior, customer dynamics, category trends, and competitive landscape

What you will bring to the team

Minimum Qualifications

  • University Degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or equivalent required
  • Significant work experience in media/communications strategy and planning for consumer brands across markets (Europe, Asia, LATAM) with prior international work experience in those markets
  • Deep understanding of global media landscapes, with expertise in tailoring strategies to different cultural, regulatory, and market dynamics
  • Direct experience working with and leading media/industry partners and/or ad tech vendors
  • Direct experience working with and leading agency teams

Preferred Qualifications/Competencies

  • Proficiency with ad tech platforms (DSPs, Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager) and analytics tools to evaluate and optimize campaign performance
  • Experience managing media budgets, negotiating with suppliers, and optimizing spend
  • Previous experience in leading a team
  • Strategy, communication, negotiation and influencing skills are keys for success
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners
  • Ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights
  • Strong understanding of the CPG industry and consumer behavior
