International Head of Trading Analytics and Strategy

Leads a team of Transaction Cost Analysis professionals who provide research and evaluation for, and lead the implementation of, transformative trading processes, technologies, and analytic tools to minimize transaction costs. Serves as a resource and relationship manager between the transaction cost analysis team and the trading desks.

Vanguard's Trading Analytics and Strategy (TAS) team works with our global trading desks to optimize their trading strategies, saving millions of dollars for clients every year. The team works with our trader and portfolio manager partners, across asset classes and passive as well as active mandates, to conduct data-driven analyses and build tools to help shape our trading strategy. Vanguard's trading desk trade over $15 trillion annually and is one of the largest market participants in the world. Vanguard manages over $9 trillion of both active and passive Equity and Fixed Income products.

In this role you will:

• Drives the success of the team by leading the effort to design, present, and implement strategic research to identify, measure, and reduce transaction costs. Researches, evaluates, tests, and implements cutting-edge trading technology, analytics, data sources, and other tools.
• Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
• Provides thought leadership on transaction cost analysis. Captures, designs, presents, and implements actionable recommendations for trading desks based on rigorous research, quantitative analysis, and a deep understanding of market structure.
• Develops and prototypes increasingly complex technology tools that provide value to the transaction cost analysis processes. Enhances existing models, develops data sources and processes, and communicates results.
• Provides vision and thought leadership to assist in shaping the future of the transaction cost analysis and trading agenda. Engages with internal and external partners to represent the team's needs and perspectives on analyses that help to measure and manage transaction costs.
• Develops and manages strategic partnerships with trading desks and drives changes in trading behavior and process for continuous improvement. Uses communication and interpersonal skills to integrate with the trading desk. Tailors communication of complex concepts to the needs and abilities of the audience.
• Develops and maintains knowledge of market structure, microstructure, and transaction cost analysis in order to bring an informed perspective to the research process. Works with technology team to guide the team's infrastructure and data needs.
• Represents Vanguard effectively to internal and external audiences.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

What it takes:

• Undergraduate degree or above in quantitative discipline required. Graduate degree and/or professional certification (CFA, FRM) preferred.
• Minimum of seven years related work experience. Supervisory experience preferred
• Strong foundation of cross asset class investment knowledge.
• Ability to handle multiple, complex projects with attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
• Demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills.
• Experience with Python, R, SQL, or related programming languages highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to function in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment with multiple and diverse responsibilities.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to interact and build effective working relationships with peers and senior management.
