The purpose of this role is:
In the Head of Tax role, you will contribute to our vision of being the leader of residential real estate services in the UK by:
- Being responsible for ensuring the Company is tax compliant and that our tax reporting, compliance, operating practices and structure are efficient and optimised. You will also be the first point of contact for tax queries by other team members, liaising with tax advisors and HMRC and reporting to Group Tax Department
- Ensuring that the UK Group companies are fully compliant with tax legislation and statutory deadlines.
This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.Key Accountabilities
- Preparing company and group consolidated tax disclosures for UK statutory accounts under FRS 102 principles for year ended 31 December 2024.
- Preparing and submitting corporation tax returns for UK companies year ended 31 December 2024 using ThomsonReuters Onesource software.
- Preparing company and group consolidated tax disclosures for UK statutory accounts under IFRS principles for year ended 31 December 2025, including any restatement of prior year comparatives.
- Calculating corporation tax quarterly instalment payments and instructing final payments as required.
- Calculating monthly current tax and deferred tax accruals for management accounts.
- Completing group reporting obligations such as bi-annual tax provisions and quarterly payment schedules.
- Leading the preparation of quarterly Group VAT returns, reviewing and submitting using Workday ERP system.
- Monitoring and testing controls in respect of VAT process to ensure transactions entered into Workday system feed correctly into the VAT return.
- Document tax processes and complete sub-certification checklists, liaising with HR team regarding employment tax matters, to provide assurance for Senior Accounting Officer certification.
- Monitoring UK tax legislation for developments in relation to UK filing requirements for Pillar Two and liaising with Group Tax Department to meet any UK obligations (such as nominating a reporting company and filing any UK notifications).
- Liaising with Group Tax Department regarding submission of Country by Country Reporting and complete UK obligations (i.e. notify HMRC of filing by overseas parent).
- Leading the update of UK Tax Strategy and liaising with Group Tax Department and Legal teams for Board approval ahead of instructing publication on UK website.
- Supporting M&A and Finance teams with handover and integration of share or business acquisitions in respect of tax matters (i.e. ensuring tax filings are met, adding to VAT Group etc.).
- Various accounting and tax related projects, to improve efficiencies and optimising our tax reporting and compliance
Person Specification
Experience
- Professional accountancy or tax qualifications CIMA, ACA, CA, CTA
- Tax / professional services firm background (Top 20) with significant post qualification experience
- Excellent analytical skills, technically strong coupled with strong commercial acumen
- Experience preparing UK corporation tax returns, specifically including making claims for capital allowances and group relief, and preparing corporate interest restriction return. Experience with ThomsonReuters Onesource Corporation Tax would be a plus.
- Experience preparing consolidated tax disclosures for large groups, specifically including deferred tax on business combinations, under FRS102 and IFRS.
- Experience with tax obligations of a very large UK group, such as Senior Accounting Officer regime, Country by Country Reporting, Tax Strategy publication, very large QIPs.
- Experience reviewing Group VAT returns. Experience with Workday would be a plus.
- Ability and experience of operating at a senior level with Finance and non-Finance stakeholders
