Job Description

This newly created role will establish and lead the insurance function for Smiths Detection following its acquisition by CVC Capital Partners. As the company's first dedicated Insurance Manager, the postholder will be responsible for developing and managing the global insurance programme, providing strategic oversight of all insurance-related activities, and acting as the primary liaison between the business, brokers, and the insurance market.

The role is critical in protecting the organisation's assets and managing risk exposure across international operations, while supporting commercial growth through expert guidance on insurance matters related to contracts, M&A activity, and new market entry.

Duties:

Own the end-to-end global insurance process to achieve the best outcome:

  • Lead the annual renewal process, including interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee global underwriting data collection and creating insurance submissions to ensure adherence to Insurance Act 2015 requirements.
  • Liaise with the insurance broker and insurer stakeholders to support negotiations.
  • Efficiently run post-placement activities including premium allocation and payment, certificate distribution and US audits.
  • Provide technical advice on insurance clauses in business contracts.
  • Manage claims between the business, broker and insurers and build relationships with claims adjusters, insurers and other claims-related parties to achieve the best outcome.
  • Provide insurance due diligence and integration support on M&A opportunities.
  • Provide feedback to Smiths Detection management team and CVC (as required) on renewal strategy and outcome, and any material insurance market updates.
  • Support Senior Leadership Team with principal risk reviews by conducting insurance gap analyses.
  • Support business with insurance considerations for entry into new products and end-markets.
  • Manage the information requirements, understanding the insurance requests, standardising and simplifying it into a format that can be easily gathered, running the annual process to ensure accuracy and completeness, and collecting and reviewing the information from sites.
  • Manage global insurance costs, balancing opportunities to reduce premiums while appropriately managing risk.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the insurance industry managing global insurance programmes within Manufacturing / Engineering or Aviation Sectors.
  • Experience of reviewing and negotiating insurance terms in business contracts.
  • Hands-on experience of insurance claim management is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple and changing deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player with the ability to build productive work relationships across borders and cultures and experience working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with good attention to detail.
  • Dip CII qualified is preferred
  • Confidence with understanding accounting impacts of decision-making - qualified through experience or formal accounting qualification
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Clear, concise and accurate work.
