At Saga, we are looking for a Finance Manager to join our Insurance Finance team supporting Saga Services Limited (SSL)
As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for Saga Services Limited's month-end process, including all aspects of general ledger accounting and reporting. You will work within the R2R team and the rest of the FR&C team.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will have responsibility for and take ownership of the production and delivery of all internal and external financial reporting requirements, including, but not limited to, preparation of the statutory financial statements, oversight and management of SSL's balance sheet, and liaising with both internal and external auditors.
You will work closely with the rest of the FR&C team, supporting the improvement of processes and the quality of financial information.
Collaboration is important to us at Saga, and our Insurance Finance team typically meets twice a month at our hubs in London or Kent.
Whilst we are recruiting for an FTC, we would be interested in having conversations around an extension or possible permanent position.
Role Responsibility
As the Finance Manager, you will lead SSL's month-end process, including creating the monthly balance sheet pack, reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, and monitoring the progress of associated actions.
You will be accountable for the following areas:
- Preparation of annual statutory accounts for SSL while liaising with company auditors to facilitate and monitor responses to the SSL audit plan and providing input into the Saga plc Group Annual Report and Accounts and Interim Statement
- Support the Financial Controller in the maintenance of a robust control environment and the enhancement and testing of the financial control framework
- Become the lead contact for external audit and facilitate the provision of information as required
- Contribute to the production of regulatory reporting, including RMAR and others as required
- Support with the preparation of accounting memos and different internal and external papers including Audit Committee, Executive Committee and Board papers throughout the year where relevant.
- Build excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, including colleagues across finance, internal and external audit.
- Show curiosity to continually review and improve the control and process environment of the business
- Provide adhoc support as required
- Support system development, implementation and change to deliver process improvement and enhanced management reporting
- Coach and develop other team members, leading by example and providing motivation within both SSL Finance and the wider Saga Finance team
The Ideal Candidate
As the Finance Manager within our Insurance Brokering business, you will be an ACA, ACCA, or CIMA-qualified accountant with demonstrable experience in the Insurance industry.
Other skills and experience include:
- Line management experience and coaching and mentoring skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, managing stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
- Experience and competence in external financial reporting, including preparation of statutory accounts
- Able to challenge processes and assumptions, with a mindset for continuous improvement
- Able to quickly establish credibility, winning the respect and cooperation of colleagues
- High integrity and objectivity, capable of selling ideas and implementing change
- Analytically strong with the ability to challenge and interrogate, facilitating the ability to identify anomalies or inconsistencies and pursue these through to a resolution
- Inquisitive, and strong desire to understand the "why" behind processes in order to perform them better and identify opportunities
