Oakwood Community Hospital is a 24 bedded community inpatient unit and focuses on rehabilitation for the people of Berkshire West. We are a multidisciplinary unit, with consultant medical support that cares for patients who need extra support to enable them to go home following an episode of deterioration of their health.

We have links to the 2 other Community Hospitals in Berkshire West and 2 Community Hospitals in the East of Berkshire and work very closely with the acute sector and Community Services, such as intermediate care. We have a strong therapeutic presence on the ward, and you will be expected to be operationally focused and work closely with the MDT. You will be expected to lead and work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team and have effective communication skills to manage the treatment, care, and flow of patients.

You will be supported by the Ward Manager.

This position provides the ideal opportunity to utilise your managerial skills while supporting the ward clinically to provide an outstanding service. You will need to have good clinical knowledge and skills and be a role model to the team. You must also have a passion for excellence and be able to demonstrate the ability to take the lead and have pride in your team.

Main duties of the job

As inpatient services manager, you will have overall responsibility as first line manager for the smooth and efficient management and day to day running of all inpatient services at Oakwood Community Hospital. You will work with ward managers and stakeholders both within the locality and outside to ensure the timely and appropriate transfer of patients into the community hospital and onwards to their future destination, taking responsibility for ensuring that safe high-quality care is delivered. You will have overall responsibility for the line management of ward including, nursing, Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and administrative staff as appropriate and have day to day responsibility for the operational management of an allocated in-patient ward within the hospital. It is essential that you are an effective leader and role model, providing regular direct clinical care and advice, in addition to ensuring effective use of non-clinical time to support, the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance, facilitating the modernisation of patient services.
