Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrate persuasive, motivational, negotiating, empathetic and/or reassuring skills
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to set up systems and monitor, review and implement changes to existing working practices and sustain improvements
  • Ability to work independently and organise a varied workload, meeting competing demands. The post holder will need to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner
  • Make complex clinical judgements in relation to patient care, risk identification and management
  • Ability to work in partnership with the Ward Matrons, Service Managers and Head of Service whilst advocating the nursing and quality agenda.
  • IT literate with ability to use electronic systems, spreadsheets/databases and produce reports and statistics

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to manage and deliver projects
  • Effective negotiation skills that demonstrates a flexible and client friendly approach
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • Able to deal with interruptions/queries from colleagues throughout the day

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Registered mental health nurse (RMN)
  • Sound knowledge and experience of mental health nursing care in relation to clinical interventions, policies, service development and delivery within inpatient services
  • Experience of auditing
  • Knowledge of the legal and ethical framework set out by the NMC code of professional conduct and other relevant legislation
  • Experience of working with experts by experience to develop and deliver services

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience in leadership and management
  • Experience of delivering training and presenting to groups of people
