Innovation Manager (Fixed Term Contract)

Job Introduction

We are currently recruiting for an Innovation Manager for an 18 month Fixed Term Contract.

To continue to drive a step-change in the understanding and prioritisation of behaviours, innovation and close out activities that improve team performance, productivity, quality of outputs and wellbeing of stakeholders engaged with the project (stakeholders being clients, shareholders, supply chain partners and employees, plus others).

Role Responsibility

  • Responsible for engaging senior leaders to sponsor & close out key innovation(s) to improve team performance, productivity, planning and critical delivery compliance.
  • Continuation of innovation strategic direction / objectives / targets enabling performance improvement whilst ensuring continued alignment to the wider SCSJV strategic goals.
  • Continue to work with senior leaders to implement innovation and improvement strategies, embed best practice and strategic thinking.
  • Structure innovation portfolio and improvement activities in the short, medium and long term, applying proven project management principles and improvement techniques, leading others along the journey.
  • Support senior leaders in applying data to make fact-based interventions and inform decision making.
  • Engage, coach, and collaborate with, stakeholders at all levels aligned to the innovation community's strategy.
  • Support a project wide continuous improvement, innovation, knowledge transfer culture and environment.
  • Enable and empower community stakeholders to drive accountability and share proven ideas.
  • Understand the "voice of the customer" to align team performance across both operational and service delivery.
  • Promote team and project successes to enhance both SCSJV and HS2 reputation, leaving a legacy handover across parent companies, HS2 route and wider industry.
  • Maintain close working relationships with collaboration, communications, and project improvement to form the 'corporate glue' to drive high performance teams across the project.
  • Build relationships across parent companies (UK and globally) and other HS2 MWCC, as appropriate.
  • Be a role model, upholding the values and behaviours of SCS and HS2

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of working with senior leaders creating an improvement culture and environment.
  • Some experience of working within the construction and infrastructure sector preferred.
  • Experience of project managing innovation in a senior capacity.
  • Experience of enabling and guiding a structured portfolio of innovation projects across both technical and commercial areas to closeout within a complex safety critical programme
  • Experience of supporting and coaching multi-disciplined teams, across multiple locations.
  • Effective communicator and facilitator, ability to build strong networks and influence at a senior level.
  • Comfortable taking on a "disrupter" role, challenging norms and driving innovation to benefit the project.
  • Strong written and analytical skills to assess data, understand trends and facilitate activities based on relevant information.
  • Able to work in an agile manner, fast paced and able to identify and resolve blockers efficiently and effectively.
  • Degree/HND or equivalent in appropriate technical subject (desirable)
  • Hold relevant CSCS card

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK's new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK's 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
