Person specification

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria

  • Breastfeeding Counsellor qualification or equivalent qualification/experience
  • UNICEF breastfeeding management course or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience & knowledge of working in, or alongside the NHS, local authority or other statutory provider
  • Significant experience of working with families or in a health promotional setting
  • Significant experience of co-ordinating and supervising other staff
  • Experience of delivering training or clinical supervision
  • Significant experience of collecting, analysing and reporting of key data and information

Skills, abilites and knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge and understanding of national & local strategies relevant to breastfeeding
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills with ability to prioritise own and other's workloads
  • Able to work within policies and procedures/ guidelines and explain these to others
  • Excellent communication/ negotiation skills

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of individualised woman-centred care

  • Enthusiastic / Self-motivated and able to use initiative
  • Approachable and flexible attitude to work
