Working hours:Full-time, 35 hours per week.

Location:Based at Trees for Cities office, currently in Brixton, London SW9. Hybrid working available with at least two days per week in our office in line with our policy.

Purpose of Job

Trees for Cities has a strategic goal to create a movement for urban trees and tree equity. We engage people in our movement by influencing and mobilising people to plant and care for trees through their voice, time and money.

This role manages the effective implementation of Trees for Cities' Individual Giving Strategy. The Individual Giving Manager is responsible for management and growth of Trees for Cities individual giving programme, raising vital unrestricted funds for the charity. The 2026-27 income target is £350,000.

Priorities include stewardship to nurture and retain existing supporters, developing new regular giving programmes to attract new audiences, and the creation and implementation of fundraising campaigns aligned to our strategy and brand.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

The Individual Giving Manager is responsible for driving income generation from individual supporters across a wide range of channels. This includes managing one-off website donations, regular giving acquisition and retention, digital fundraising, payroll giving, SMS, merchandise and shopping initiatives, legacy and in-memory giving, and challenge event fundraising. They also lead major and mid-value donor stewardship and acquisition, ensuring donors at all levels receive high-quality engagement and a seamless journey across every touchpoint.

A key part of the role is the development and delivery of effective donor acquisition, retention, and development campaigns. The Manager oversees both digital and non-digital campaign activity, creating campaign plans, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and ensuring compelling, emotive materials are produced in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team. They are responsible for direct marketing to supporters, managing donor enquiries, and implementing strong stewardship strategies to encourage regular giving and maximise donor lifetime value.

Operationally, the Individual Giving Manager ensures that all donor data and journeys are well managed. This includes maintaining a smooth online giving experience, ensuring data protection compliance, and using the CRM system to support effective fundraising. They line-manage the Senior Individual Giving Coordinator, ensuring accurate data selections, reporting, and efficient use of the database to support programme development. They also embed a culture of testing and insight, using results to refine campaigns and deepen understanding of audience behaviour.

The Individual Giving Manager oversees annual expenditure budgets, forecasts programme income, and works closely with Finance to track donations and ensure funds are managed in line with donor intentions. They prepare detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual income and expenditure reports, analysing campaign performance and return on investment. They also contribute to wider business planning and strategic development, ensuring individual giving activity aligns with organisational priorities and long-term goals.

You will oversee administration of the Trees for Cities web shop, including sourcing sustainable products from environmentally-sound suppliers, as well as selling merchandise at given planting days. The Individual Giving Manager will also ensure timely responses to supporter enquiries and effective administration of third-party donation platforms including DontSendMeACard, GoodPAYE, and others, responding to enquiries and thanking donors as necessary.

What you will deliver

  • Fulfilling the current iteration of the Individual Giving Strategy and working alongside the Engagement and Marketing Director to create a subsequent strategy from April 2028
  • Individual Giving campaigns directed at existing and potential supporters
  • Donor-led email communications (using the Charity Digital Mail platform) including the stewardship of all online donors.
  • A catalogue of engaging and visually appealing fundraising materials for print and digital
  • Audience profiles of donor groups to ensure targeted and consistent messaging

A minimum of 3 years' experience working within individual giving, with a proven track record of engaging supporters and generating income from individuals
