Key Responsibilities

Sample responsibilities for this position include

  • Schedule the movement of shipments from all over the world, via forwarders, to the assigned origin and/or destination points and follow up to ensure timely arrival. Liaising with all areas of the business from Buying to Finance to ensure all business targets are met
  • Determine efficient and effective ways of moving goods from one location to another, including shipping methods, routes, possible consolidation, and rates for goods to be shipped
  • Commercial decision maker who can balance the need for consolidations to drive margin with speed to market to support sales
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the critical path, shipping process and government regulations to enable smooth stock movement from manufacturers in China, India, Turkey and many other countries to multiple warehouse locations
  • Experienced in working with multiple warehouses across the world and of global costs, clearances and duties to help shape department and business strategy
  • Drive the day to day operations for importing and exporting product with an excellent knowledge of freight forwarding and regulatory requirements including across all freight types and varied product types
  • Well versed in calculating weight, volume of goods and space.
  • Expert in the required documentation for the physical movement of cargo, such as bills of lading, packing lists, dock receipts, or certificates of origin
  • Verify adherence of documentation to customs, insurance, or regulatory requirements
  • Maintaining an online receiving portal
  • Acts as an expediter to resolve delivery problems
  • Strong negotiating skills with internal and external customer
  • Stake holder management to keep all internal and external customer informed of factors such as shipping options, timelines, transfers, or regulations affecting shipments
  • Developing and maintaining an excellent working relationship with internal departments and/or vendors, including freight forwarders, product manufacturers, buying team, QC team, finance team, packaging manufacturers and warehouses.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the transportation/logistics field working in a distribution environment or shipping warehouse, or equivalent
  • Excellent time management. Able to juggle multiple work streams, keeping all stakeholders up to date on progress and timeline.
  • Confident communicator, able to manage up and influence through business understanding and clear data presentation
  • Able to build strong relationships and work closely with all teams to enable you to make independent decisions knowing they align with business strategy
  • Be proactive and strategic in considering the needs of all internal business partners
  • Be independent, quality-minded and have a structured approach to tasks
  • Inquisitive and analytical and able to identify potential problems and find solutions.
  • Constantly review current work flows and processes to ensure they are fit for purpose and to make suggestions to improve efficiency.
  • Flexible in approach and as comfortable in the detail as being strategic and planning 6 months out.
  • Strong excel skills with the ability to analyse data and provide actionable insight
  • Highly motivated and detail-oriented team player and dedicated to providing high quality
  • Awareness of Data Protection Laws and handing of confidential information
