The purpose of this role is:

This newly created Group role, will contribute to our vision of being the leader of residential real estate services in the UK by:

Being responsible for taking a lead role in transitioning the UK Group Financial Reporting from UK GAAP to IFRS as part of the next phase in the broader business growth and development

Ensuring a seamless and quality transition and implementation of IFRS to the highest standard and alignment with Emeria Group's reporting requirements

This role reports directly to the CFO

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the internal review of accounting policies & processes and assimilation of differences between UK GAAP and IFRS
  • Prepare an assessment of the current FRS 102 Financial reporting structure - systems, accounting standards, policies, practices, processes and ways of working as the basis of the transition to IFRS
  • Prepare and document a comparison between current accounting / reporting under FRS 102 and IFRS for all major GL account lines, for review and audit by PWC, covering leases, IFRS 9, revenue, acquisition accounting and further areas discovered during the research phase
  • Assess and quantify the gap / difference FRS 102 and IFRS, determine the implications of the change as well as a comparison to Group accounting policy
  • Document each phase of the transition process, creating an audit trail for review and sign off
  • Review and align with Emeria Group on IFRS accounting standards and interpretations, as the basis for UK adoption of IFRS, document and agree any deviations between UK and Group on standards / practices / policies
  • Develop a roadmap / project plan, establish the internal team (Controllership, Tax, Treasury, Systems) for the transition project, and co-ordinate external parties, namely PWC and BDO
  • In conjunction with Emeria UK Systems Team, establish the accounting structure / reporting within Workday and Adaptive for the transition / parallel period and for future reporting periods
  • Working with the Group Accountant and FP&A team to ensure monthly reporting packs are submitted under IFRS, including all adjustments from management reporting.
  • Lead the preparation of financial statements for subsidiary companies and group consolidation for the transition year - 2025.
  • Prepare the required prior year comparatives accounts under IFRS for the 2025 statutory financial statements - this will require restatement of 2024 accounts / balances and opening balances from 2023
  • Working closely with Tax, ensure all tax implications are considered / evaluated during all phases of the transition
  • Actively support the Emeria UK Finance team during the transition phase supporting delivery on its overall performance objectives and growth strategy
  • Collaborate with the broader central and divisional Finance teams, as part of the assessment of UK GAAP and IFRS transition

Person Specification

Experience

  • In dept / expert working knowledge of IFRS (including IFRS 9,15 and IFRS 16)
  • Must have managed / experience of leading a UK GAAP to IFRS transition
  • Good analytical skills to research GAAP materials to determine appropriate accounting treatments; and identify and diagnose potential reporting issues from reported information.
  • Prior experience in a working in a financial reporting environment engaging with both internal external stakeholders
  • Friendly professional manner, comfortable communicating with peers, other departments and external stakeholders.
  • Inquisitive nature, keen problem solver, self-starter and sense of owning workstreams.
  • Proactive and careful approach, with high attention to detail
  • Intermediate to advanced excel skills.
  • Excellent time management skills. Clear understanding of and ability to meet deadlines.
