Job Title: HVAC Design Support Engineer

Location: Portsmouth Naval Base

Salary: Up to £39,600 dependent on skills and experiences

What you’ll be doing:

  • Operating within the functionality of the appropriate tools and techniques (AutoCAD, Inventor, FORAN etc.) as directed by his/her supervisor
  • Producing and developing LEV/HVAC designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards and carry out detail design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained, taking due cognisance of Designing for Production
  • Carrying out onboard investigations into operational problems or developments, develop, and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a team of both LEV and HVAC Systems
  • Supporting the development of best practice to increase the capability, performance of tools and processes
  • Identifying personal training requirements, skills gaps and development requirements in own discipline
  • Keeping up to date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices), and supply technical support and expertise to others as required

Your skills and experiences:

Essential skills:

  • Good understanding of Engineering Systems and able to read engineering drawings
  • Confident in diagnosing and rectifying faults
  • Experience in systems such as Mechanical / electrical
  • Able to work at height and in confined spaces

Desirable skills:

  • HVAC experience
  • HNC Degree or willingness to work towards
  • Ideally qualified in BOHS LEV Disciplines (P601, P602, P603, P604)

The BAE Systems Design Services HVAC Team:

The BAE Systems Design Services HVAC Team consists of 15 engineers, that develop and delivering HVAC design guidance’s, testing, commissioning and fault finding for all current naval platforms based in Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Design Engineer, you will have the skills and experience for your primary role of supporting the testing, commissioning and fault finding of ship HVAC systems in Portsmouth and occasionally around the world, keeping the ships operating wherever they are deployed. You will also design modifications and enhancement of HVAC systems using CAD that will be manufactured and installed.
