The Role
The High Voltage Manager (HVM) role has Asset and Contractor management accountabilities in relation to the high voltage infrastructure of Solar, BESS and Wind farms. The HVM has the delegated responsibility for the HV network and associated equipment on allocated sites. This person is also responsible for planning, implementation and reporting of all activities on the HV network and associated equipment with a focus on HSE whilst maximising production. This role will deliver the operational relationship and interaction with Distribution Network Operators (DNO), National Grid and internal Site Managers. The HVM is the primary interface with Construction and development on HV network topics
Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership
- Ensuring the health, safety and environmental management of all HV apparatus, associated equipment and individuals on site.
- Ensure all statutory and non-statutory safety requirements are complied with across HV equipment.
- Manage contractor safety, including review of all submitted documentation (e.g. Risk Assessments and Method Statements) for contractors involved with the HV network and associated equipment and perform the Technical Officer responsibilities for these contracts.
- Accommodate and conduct regular safety audits across the HV portfolio, ensuring all actions arising are resolved in a timely manner.
- Support incident investigations and reporting requirements
- Review of Safety Alerts and Notices and implementation of lessons learnt.
- Setting to work and Tool box talk provisions
- Ensure a Safe System of Work is in place and adhered to in respect of all work taking place across the portfolio.
- Produce, update and maintain working procedures, ensuring compliance is maintained with relevant formal business procedures.
Technical & Performance
- Preparing, reviewing and implementing HV O&M plans for sites under their accountability to agreed targets.
- Undertake regular inspections of HV equipment to ensure that highest standards of maintenance are being applied by service providers.
- Manage the maintenance service contractors for HV equipment, ensuring all routine maintenance is completed on time and in full, and all safety critical devices are checked and operable.
- Arrange all scheduled HV switching.
- Maximizing production through the scheduling of work during periods of low wind speed and ensuring adherence by the maintenance provider and DNO.
- Act as the initial contact within Asset Management & Operations for key stakeholders for HV issues, ensuring that any issues are identified and resolved.
- Review maintenance provider's reports, identify issues arising and react in a timely manner.
- Assist and instigate HV System designs and modifications along with operational input to future developments.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) into High Voltage infrastructure as required with their respective region
- Establish and manage an HV spares strategy in conjunction with UK warehouse.
- Ensure an effective handover from Projects to Operations phase by fully understanding HV assets from an early stage and ensuring that all documentation is in place.
- Support and /or manage unplanned events that require HV resource.
- Ensure that all documentation and relevant data is stored in a consistent manner, in a format that is accessible to others and in accordance with current Document Management System (DMS).
- Assist stakeholders in matters relating to the site through the provision of accurate operational knowledge and data in a timely manner.
- Utilise analytical tools to fully understand asset condition, ensure early identification of potential issues and minimise downtime (eg. HV SCADA, OEM SCADA etc).
- Utilising the works management system to control access, record works completed and identify any nonconformance (SAP Plant Maintenance) by maintenance suppliers. All non-conformance to be identified and escalated as required .
- Lead and support improvement projects as required
Commercial & Financial
- Support tendering activities required in relation to the HV infrastructure on sites under their responsibility
- Support the Medium Term Plan (MTP) in conjunction with the Asset Manager
- Management and responsibility for budget control of HV related cost areas.
- Review of all invoices relating to HV issues on site to ensure invoice accuracy.
- Provide detailed feedback on the performance of contractors to ensure quality service
Requirements
- A technical qualification in Electrical Engineering
- Proven experience working in the Energy Industry preferably renewables with a demonstratable history of Management of HV systems.
- Experience of operating within safety, environmental and operational policies, frameworks and statutory legislation;
- A suitable Health & Safety Qualification (IOSH Working Safely, NEBOSH General Certificate)
- Training in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems/Financial Management System (SAP PM/MM) as appropriate
- Strong leadership, people management and coaching skills, leading local and international teams.
- Experienced in Contract Management and managing HSE.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, influencing & negotiating skills with a successful demonstratable history.
- Strong organisational, time management and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and have a strong work ethic.
- Excellent Problem-Solving skills, resilience and tenacity
- Conscientious and detail conscious with a widely recognised eye for detail.
- Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Ability to challenge the work of others in an effective but sensitive manner
