Position Type: Fixed Term (12 months)

The Human Resources team provide generalist and specialist expertise and have a positive and well-respected relationship with the business. We work closely with our European counterparts as well as HR colleagues in our parent company, based in Houston. We have a requirement for an experienced HR generalist to join the team in London to provide cover for maternity leave.

Job Purpose:

The Human Resource Manager position is a broad, generalist role partnering an exciting growing business with all the challenges you would expect in a highly competitive, dynamic market. The role will focus predominantly on the UK with an opportunity to become a trusted advisor within your business teams, helping them shape and deliver best in class people solutions.

As HRM you will provide advice to the business on a full spectrum of people related topics; employee relations, team structure, talent development, performance and pay. You will also have the opportunity to work on various topical projects with your client groups and the wider business

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong working relationships with senior leaders and managers to become a trusted business partner, using your commercial acumen to provide appropriate and relevant expert advice and guidance on all people related topics, which is risk averse and strikes the right balance between the needs of the business and the employee
  • Keep up to date with employment legislation, working with the Head of HR to implement changes to policy when required and ensuring that these are consistently applied
  • Partner managers when dealing with ER cases, offering expert advice and support, knowing when to escalate matters to the Head of HR
  • Take responsibility for managing all cyclical HR activities within your business teams, such as performance review, pay cycles, talent reviews, engagement surveys etc. ensuring that managers are well informed and that these are delivered within agreed parameters and timelines
  • Partner the business and the L&D Manager by identifying learning and development needs and solutions, delivering learning solutions and presentations as required
  • Partner the business and the Recruitment manager by providing input to resource strategies for your business teams and taking a role in interviews as required
  • Within your business teams, be a champion on Diversity & Inclusion, Wellness and CSR providing expert knowledge and guidance
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as SM&CR, Risk and Compliance activities to meet our commitments to the FCA and PRA
  • Manage a Human Resources Assistant ensuring that HR administration is handled to a high quality and efficient standard whilst providing development opportunities and coaching to ensure the HRA remains motivated and involved
  • Take an active role in various project groups as assigned by the Head of HR, working closely with our parent company and HR team in Houston and across Europe
  • Maintain and update the HR Intranet and other HR related systems as required
  • Maintain Towers Watson job codes and Towers Watson Survey providing advice and guidance in respect of salary benchmarking
  • Support the Heads of HR (UK and Europe) with ad-hoc tasks and duties as required from time to time
  • Provide cover for other members of HR as required

Performance Objectives:

Within the first 3 months, the successful candidate will

  • Have built solid relationships with key stakeholders both in their business areas and wider HR team
  • Be providing advice to the business and managing day to day work responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Be progressing with any additional projects or assigned initiatives

Skills and Experience Specification:

Essential:

  • Relevant and progressive generalist HR experience, ideally with Underwriting or 'front office' teams
  • An excellent knowledge of employment legislation and HR policies and processes
  • Commercial acumen and analytical skills to build trusted advisor status with the business
  • Strong team player
  • Well-practiced communication and influencing skills
  • Excellent organization and prioritisation skills
  • Attention to detail and a pride in accuracy
  • High pace and resilience to adapt to growing business needs and expanding priorities.
  • Ability to resolve issues demonstrating good judgement
  • Must be willing to be in the office no less than 3 days a week
  • Prior work experience in the insurance industry or financial services is an advantage

Desirable:

  • The ideal candidate will be qualified to degree level or equivalent, including a relevant professional qualification such as CIPD
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and HR related systems such as Workday
