HSQE Manager - Energy

We have an opportunity for either an experienced Health and Safety Advisor or Manager to step up into our HSQE Manager - Energy position. The HSQE Manager - Energy will support the wider HSE team to create a positive safety culture.

Your role will be primarily focused on providing HSE support and subject matter expert advice on operations based in the boiler room, turbine plant and FGT plant. You are the type of Health and Safety professional that likes to be front facing, physically present with a proactive approach to continuously driving the H&S culture throughout the business.

Main duties within the HSQE Manager - Energy remit:

  • Leadership and Continuous Improvement
  • Provide leadership to and manage the health and safety advisor(s) within their remit to ensure that departmental and company objectives are met
  • Liaise and advise the Operational & Maintenance teams, and their contractors on safe practices in accordance with the management system
  • Promote safe practices and share LEL (LondonEnergy Ltd) and industry lessons learned across the business and contractors
  • Provide CDM and Health and Safety input into the company review of management systems ensuring alignment to the recommendations of the HSE and company objectives
  • Monitor changes of legislation regarding H&S, occupational health, CDM and anything else that could affect the H&S performance of the LEL sites
  • Provide Management Information as required by the Head of HSQE, Executive and other Senior Management Team
  • Implement HSE training and induction where the need is identified to enable staff, contractors and visitors to be aware of and adopt the CMD regulations, LEL Site Safety Rules and HSE obligations from day one and be re-briefed as required dependent on role and activity

HSE/ CDM compliance

  • Provide HSE advice, assistance and auditing services to the LEL business.
  • Review, recommend and revise the Company health and safety policies, procedures and systems to ensure they reflect best practice and meet all company objectives and legal requirements
  • Provide Health and Safety advice and auditing services for all LEL activities including Capital Projects and the Outage programme
  • Liaise and advise LEL department heads and managers / contractors on safe practices in accordance with the integrated management system and LEL Site Safety Rules
  • Plan, review and action remedial work to comply with recommendations from audits or reports, (from HSE, Insurance company, line management, etc.)
  • Provide oversight for audits undertaken by Health and Safety Advisors
  • Monitor contractor health and safety arrangements and advise where improvements are necessary. Assist contractors in fulfilling those improvements
  • Provide risk management and hazard mitigation advice to LEL Capital Projects, LEL Outage Programme and NLWA and their contractors for the NLHPP
  • Support the LEL business to produce and review risk assessments for site works and provide oversight to the Health and Safety Advisors regarding area/task specific risk assessments on CDM activity
  • Monitor LEL construction activities for compliance with LEL Site Safety Rules, CDM regulations and HSE guidelines
  • Carry out investigations, make reports and recommendations and embed lessons learned. Provide oversight to investigations and inspections undertaken by the Health and Safety Advisor(s)

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Attend CDM, HSE and Energy Management forums to identify and share best practice
  • Establish a positive working relationship with Enforcement Agencies and other regulatory bodies
  • Advocate and share best practice across the LEL business and contractor community working on LEL sites

Requirements

  • HSE role model with practical experience of embedding positive safety culture and delivering HSE transformation
  • A strong communicator with proven experience of influencing senior stakeholders
  • Minimum of 5 years in a HSE role
  • Minimum of 2 years practical experience in heavy industry, operations or construction
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent), or working towards this
  • Working knowledge of OHSAS 18001/ ISO45001.
  • IT system and computer literate
  • Full UK driving licence
