Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) Manager - Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR)

Location: Carlisle

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for a HS&E Manager to join the team at Galliford Try.

You will be responsible primarily to undertake assurance and monitor compliance against the business management system with regards to HSE and client expectations. Provide timely and competent advice to project teams on all matters of Health, Safety and Environmental on a day to day basis mainly due to the scheme size and complexity of risk. Engaging with all stakeholders on the project to drive a high performing HS&E culture.

Key Responsibilities

You will work within a project team to support the delivery of our knowingly safe and well strategy:

  • With the support of the Head of Health Safety & Environment and Head of Operational HS&E, sets / implements the strategic direction of the business unit.
  • Promote a HSE culture which is consistent with Galliford Try's Challenging Beliefs and Affecting Behaviours programme and work closely with the CBAB Coaches.
  • Advise operations team on all serious and high-risk incidents and review investigation reports to ensure root cause is identified and shared across the business.
  • Be the focal point for client H&S Managers to ensure the HSE needs of the client are met.
  • Ensure the necessary HSE reports are compiled for project management and client team.
  • Support, escalate and report any H&S concerns to the Head of Operational HS&E.
  • Support and influence the delivery and implementation of H&S tender commitments.
  • Support pre-qualification process of sub-contractors.
  • Implement and ensure delivery of predict and prevent session.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported to ActivSHEQ and closed out within the appropriate timescales. Ensure action plans are implemented and evidenced based on findings.
  • Facilitate and promote Peer to Peer safety inspections.
  • Ensure a minimum of one SSER is completed on the project per month.
  • Carry out focussed inspections to ensure that CDM duties are being discharged and the requirements of the subcontract order are being met.
  • Facilitate focussed management system audits to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure focussed training sessions are delivered as required.
  • Be a point of contact for D&A testing and organise such testing as required.
  • Ensure case studies to identify innovation and/or best practices are produced for the project. (one case study per quarter as a minimum)

Location

At Galliford Try, we are committed to flexible and agile working. Day to day working locations are flexible and agreed periodic homeworking is an option. The role is to support a project in Carlisle so a base location in the north west of England would be preferable.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic, IT literate individual and encourage candidates with all levels of background experience to apply and bring their perspectives to the role.

  • Previous experience in an Health and safety role or experience of working within a construction environment would be an advantage, but not essential as training will be given.
  • Ability to establish strong, collaborative working relationships.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Focus to drive and deliver results.
  • Interest in upskilling yourself and keeping pace with a fast paced changing industry.
  • Strong IT skills including PowerApps, PowerBI, Excel, Word and MS Office and experience of using other digital software.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving skills and confident in finding digital or technological solutions.
  • Manages time efficiently, plans and prioritises work activities.
  • Ability to integrate, transform, model, and visualise data from various sources
