We are looking for a dynamic and confident HR generalist and recruitment professional to manage our HR function within a dynamic contemporary cultural organisation.
This role will oversee the end-to-end employee life cycle and manage the HR & Business Coordinator who provides day to day operational and administrative HR support.
The postholder will report directly to the Director of Governance and HR, and support and lead the delivery of People initiatives; they will oversee employee relations, process improvements, employee development programmes and help to craft HR policies.

Principle Purpose of Post:
This is a Human Resources (HR) generalist role for Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) and is key to the effective HR administration of the company, its activities and to the perception of the organisation.
The HR Manager can expect their role to be hands-on and will be required to assist with the management and administration of the overall HR function and the delivery of strategic objectives.
Working closely with the Director of Governance and HR (DGHR) the post-holder will:
• Plan and meet the HR needs of the whole organisation.
• Manage employee relations casework including dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy.
• Advise managers on the terms and conditions of employment and share best practice with them.
• Develop HR policy and procedures to drive performance and mitigate disputes.
Responsible for:
Direct line management of the Business and HR Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities and Objectives:
HR Management:
• Working closely with the DGHR to manage the HR administration and support function across the organisation.
• Provide advice on recruitment and selection strategies and support the recruitment process for the organisation - this may include writing job descriptions and preparing interview questions and application processes.
• Preparing and issuing contracts of employment and preparing documentation relating to the employment of staff, in line with the terms and conditions of employment.
• Working with the arts team to advise on contracting of freelance workers.
• Maintaining staff details using the current HR system and personnel files with details of appraisals, reviews, training, holidays, sick leave, DBS checks and all other relevant data.
• Monitoring all absences, advising managers on absence related procedures and processes.
• Overall management and review of the staff appraisal system.
• Coordinate workforce development, identifying training needs and developing and delivering the plan to address these needs.
• Overall management of MAC's disciplinary and grievance processes in line with company policy, providing advice to managers as necessary.
• Administer payroll and payroll records in liaison with the DGHR, providing information to MAC's payroll provider in a timely manner.
• Continuously monitor and review HR policies and processes and implement changes where necessary.
• Participate in the implementation of specific projects, procedures and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the organisation.
• Manage the administration of all HR communications through whatever channels including in person, online and by phone.
General Administration:
• Contribute to ensuring that HR and administration team members cover and support all relevant team and project meetings; playing an active role in these meetings where required.
• Collating data and information to support reports, presentations and funding applications.
• Contributing to the development and upkeep for documentation, archive, evaluation and monitoring systems at MAC; ensuring that appropriate compliance and storage is made.
• Contribute to ensuring that all Health and Safety regulations are adhered to and play and active role in MAC's Health and Safety Working Group.
• Working closely with the Head of Administration the post-holder will offer support when required with managing the administration of incoming and outgoing mail, email and enquiries in person and by phone.
General:
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and play a key role in ensuring that data protection compliance is met.
• To participate in training and development activities as required and to assist with training and development of colleagues as appropriate.
• Any other duties which may reasonably be required from this post.

Person Specification
A person specification describes the areas of knowledge, skills and experience a person should possess in order to take up the post.
Essential:
• Proven HR generalist experience of at least two years gained in an office environment.
• Gained or working towards an HR qualification - CIPD L5 or equivalent.
• Proven experience in employee relations case management
• A solid knowledge of employment legislation and its application.
• Experience of drawing up employment contracts and policies relating to employment legislation.
• Ability to communicate positively and clearly with people from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to deal with and understand a range of situations by maintaining objectivity and accurately reporting issues.
• A good level of organisational skills and clear ability to prioritise and seek solutions.
• Proactive team player with strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
• An ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion and diplomacy.
• Self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy or as part of a team.
• A keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• An awareness of the data protection act and its practical implementation.
• A commitment to continuing professional development and improving professional practice.
• An understanding of MAC's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Desirable:
• A professional qualification in HR Management.
• Experience of line management and managing others
• An interest in the arts.
• Experience of developing, monitoring and managing budgets.
• Experience of using HR system software, such as People HR, Bright HR and Oracle.
