Salary: £38,626 to £40,476 (Career Grade BG11) - pay award pending.

- Developing Mass Transit options for the city;
- Building on our success as Cycling City to further develop and implement a world class walking and cycling network in the city;
- Making school journeys safer and increasing walking and cycling by implementing School Streets;
- Trialling and testing new transport technologies through our 'Future Transport Zones' programme of work.
What will I be doing?
As a Senior Traffic Engineer you will play a pivotal role in transforming the city's transport landscape.
You will lead and oversee complex, high-profile transport projects that align with Bristol's Joint Local Transport Plan.
You will act as a key expert within the City Transport team, providing specialist knowledge, innovative solutions, and authoritative advice to project teams.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing sustainable transport initiatives that align with the Healthy Streets Approach. This vision centres on creating vibrant, accessible streetscapes that promote health and well-being for everyone.
You will have the opportunity to champion policies that enhance walking, cycling, and public transport access, making Bristol a more connected and liveable city for all.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership: Offer high-level professional expertise to support the City Transport team and oversee complex, city-wide projects. You will ensure projects meet key outcomes, addressing safety, efficiency, and sustainability, all while adhering to the principles of the Healthy Streets Approach.
- Project Management: Lead and supervise projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. You will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to implement new or improved transport services that enhance Bristol's urban mobility.
- Innovative Solutions: Conduct in-depth research into transport initiatives, both locally and internationally, to bring forward innovative, people-centered strategies that improve Bristol's streets and contribute to overall city regeneration.
- Collaborative Partnerships: Build and maintain strong working relationships with external organizations to drive improvements in service delivery, implement new transportation services, and explore opportunities for collaborative initiatives.
- Strategy Development: Play a critical role in shaping transport strategies and objectives, working closely with Bristol's City Council to ensure the city's transport network aligns with sustainable practices and statutory obligations.
Healthy Streets Approach:
This position will directly contribute to the delivery of Bristol's commitment to the Healthy Streets framework, which prioritizes safety, inclusivity, and accessibility.
You will lead projects that create greener, healthier environments, ensuring that every street is a place where people feel safe and encouraged to walk, cycle, and engage with their surroundings.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure all projects adhere to best practices in health, safety, and welfare policies.
- Maintain compliance with Bristol City Council's codes of conduct, safeguarding policies, and equalities practices.
