It also supplies the UK private label yogurt market from a dedicated, state of the art yogurt facility.
We are currently recruiting at our Telford Yogurts & Desserts site for a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager.
We are looking for an experienced individual to develop, implement and support the site EHS plans taking account of the Company's strategy. You will promote a positive EHS culture, providing guidance to the business with legal health and safety compliance and supporting the development and delivery of best class EHS solutions.
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain HSE strategies to improve standards in line with industry best practices and actively promote a developing safety culture
- Support the risk assessment and safe systems of work and COSHH process throughout the site
- Proactively manage the claims handling process
- Maintain and legal permits required by the site (e.g. Environmental permits)
- Audit the business' HSE MS as required and provide suitable and practical recommendations for improvement
- Carry out audits of statutory requirements with key stakeholders
- Support the STAR system implementation and ongoing maintenance
- Support managers in accident and near miss investigations, acting as SME
- Develops & acts as the advisor on contractor systems, implement all the relevant RCS and work with key stakeholders to agree the duty holders of the RCS, and ensure the standards are suitably audited
- Ensure colleagues compliance and awareness of their legal/company roles and responsibilities with respect HSE
- Coach colleagues on audits, RA, STAR, investigations to ensure robust quality and timely delivery
- Grow the capability of colleagues throughout the business in their specific HSE roles
- Challenge and coach all colleagues on unsafe acts, systems and procedures
- Actively develop, promote and improve the health and safety culture throughout the site
- Develop high-level problem-solving capability and facilitation skills throughout the function
- Creates high performance through PMS principles
- Sponsor of Operational Excellence principles in everything that we do
- Grows capability of themselves and colleagues on the site, by identifying continuous improvement through trending and PMS analysis
- Liaise with external authorities (HSE/EA), insurers and suppliers as necessary
- Drive and facilitate cross functional health and safety meetings as required to support colleagues in implementing performance improvements and to communicate HSE matters
- Develop and implement HSE plans to support the strategy and improve standards in health, safety, Environment and OH
- Manage Environmental and safety related costs at site level
- Attend health safety and environment meetings
- Actively review and continually improve local HSE policies, standards, procedures and practices
- Support the creation and development of H&S/E projects and improvement plans.
- Manage the occupational health provision on site leading the strategy for occupational health & driving best in class provision in wellbeing
- Own through review and implementation the TACCP and BCP agenda for the local site, with a view of the network operation
- Ensure key health safety and environmental objectives are delivered on time.
- Create purpose and direction around OGSM deliverables
- Monitor analyse and report on accident statistics, KPI's and develop and drive improvements in HSE performance data and in the bench mark index; maintain standards and quality of the data
- Ensures own activities are aligned to overall business objectives and knows how current performance impacts the bottom line
Key skills & experience
- Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent with 2+ years site HS&E Management experience
- Member of IOSH
- An environmental qualification such as AIEMA
- H&S auditing / training qualification
- Skills to identify, prepare, and deliver HSE-related training sessions
- Experience of formal Safety and Environmental management systems (14 & 18001)
- Experience of Environmental permits and Energy systems such as CCL
- Strong problem solving and implementation skills
- Keeps up to date with commercial performance of business area and makes recommendations
- Energetic and persistent when embracing change, relentless in finding new opportunities
- Ability to provide practical risk control solutions
- Strong organisational, communication and coaching/mentoring skills
- Self-motivated and committed
- Must be proactive solutions driven and be able to clearly demonstrate a track record of achievement in rapidly changing environment
