About The Role

We've got a fantastic opportunity for a Retail Compliance Manager, Health and Safety, (Manchester) to join our field based retail team & for the right candidate we're offering a very competitive industry salary.

We are seeking a subject matter expert in Health & Safety to work with our wider Regional Compliance Managers & be the Retail Regional go-to support for Health & Safety matters. The candidate will also drive Food Safety & Trading Standards and must have a strong appetite to support all 3 Safe & Legal disciplines.

You'll be travelling between our Retail Supermarkets within our North West Region including Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire & the Lake District supporting the wider compliance team.

This role will play a pivotal role in upholding all elements of safety and legality and really supporting our stores. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in Health & Safety but may also have experience of Food Safety & Trading Standards but full training would be provided to the right candidate.

Supporting Retail Senior/Regional Management they will relish in a role where they have overall responsibility for Safe & Legal, and will work to ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues as well as legality of our Brand. A typical week in this role looks like...

Your home will be your base location but you'll spend most of your time supporting stores. Your week will be driven by the business needs and will include visiting 1-2 stores a day supporting improvement plans, attending meetings, conducting audits and upskilling/coaching colleagues & managers. Depending on location these may require you to stay overnight in a hotel. You will take calls, attend meetings and respond to emails throughout the week. You will build relationships and influence others to support your delivery of a Safe & Legal culture.

Virtual Technical Team meetings take place weekly for business updates and to share your experiences with your fellow Technical Managers.

With an individual project to deliver you will manage your own diary to ensure business critical activities are managed and your project is delivered on time.

Role Responsibilities (this list is not exhaustive);

  • Provide a Safe & Legal management service for Retail stores, support in Logistics may be required occasionally.
  • Proactively attend regional and store meetings, build engagement with the senior teams & share data trends, working with the teams to agree suitable solutions.
  • Manage/coordinate activity where serious safety or legality concerns have been identified and work with stores and sites to demonstrably improve standards
  • Work with stakeholders to manage Enforcement activity, arrange for any necessary support, disseminate information and liaise with Enforcement Officers to reach a satisfactory conclusion
  • Provide a reactive service for serious food safety, trading standards and health & safety issues and incidents
  • Support the central teams by providing timely information and advice
  • Use a partnership approach in order to coach Regional Managers, Store/Site Managers and colleagues in the required safe and legal standards/ general good practice
  • Build strong relationships with the retail management teams in order to be recognised as the main point of contact for all technical queries
  • Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Pest Controller) to effectively promote safety and legality

About You

  • One of the following: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Food Technology, Environmental Health, or a closely related discipline, or extensive work-based experience.
  • Knowledge of Trading Standards, Health & Safety and Food Safety legislation.
  • Lead Assessor Qualification / Auditing experience in one or more of the Safe & Legal disciplines
  • Recognised HACCP Qualification to at least Intermediate Level
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of catering, retail or manufacturing in one or more of the Safe & Legal Disciplines
  • An appreciation of the microbiological safety and quality aspects of high risk products
  • A good understanding of food safety, health & safety, trading standards quality / management systems
  • Knowledge of Retail end to end operations
  • Customer focussed with a positive, 'can do' attitude
