Role Overview

To support Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick's work in southern England, you are able to be located near any of our offices with travel to different site locations.

Drive Health, Safety and Wellbeing culture change and performance, ensuring an efficient and effective service. Deliver and support all levels to meet and where possible exceed operational requirements.

To support work delivery in southern England and to assist in work winning whilst achieving Zero Harm

What you'll be doing

As a Health and Safety Manager, you will have the following responsibilities,

  • Provide advice, support, input, direction, coaching and mentoring to the project teams to enable to them to deliver successful bids, early engineering studies, mobilisation and ultimately delivery of new projects in a coherent and co-ordinated manner.
  • Develop and deliver Health, Safety and Wellbeing culture improvement initiatives and programmes.
  • Be the face of BBK at customer and client framework events.
  • Attend customer meetings, workshops and site tours as and when required.
  • Undertake health, safety and wellbeing compliance evaluations, tours and audits as required and to ensure sufficient assurance of project activities.
  • In conjunction with the Client, Project and Head and Director of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, carry out project performance reviews and report as required.
  • Review and investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty standards to identify and effectively share lessons learned across the business and the wider Balfour Beatty.
  • Ensure actions and recommendations are tracked and the investigation process is applied.
  • Ensure Client and Balfour Beatty accident reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  • Monitor, collate and interpret performance data including close out of inspection and accident investigation reports, and provide management reports on a routine basis.
  • Liaise with regulators and develop proactive relationships (where applicable).
  • Work with the wider BB Health, Safety and Wellbeing team to promote Zero Harm and continuous improvement of performance through special projects, local initiatives and improvement plans.
  • Develop professional relationships with customers.

Who we're looking for

Do you have?

  • Corporate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards).
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have detailed, technical knowledge and experience health, safety and wellbeing legislation, regulations and guidance.
  • Utilities and/or Construction industry experience, and particularly CDM.
  • Experience of working in infrastructure / nuclear / oil and gas / highly regulated industries.
  • Must have prior experience of providing leadership and support to operational and functional teams and of working at a senior level.
  • Knowledge of behavioural change / behavioural safety / human performance / culture change techniques would be advantageous.
  • Relevant CSCS Card
