BAM Nuttall are seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our team on a Major Project at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth, Devon where we are refurbishing an area of the Royal Navy dockyard. As a Health and Safety Manager, you'll be working within the Devonport Docks team, to provide safety advice and assistance in accordance with the KierBam Joint Venture (KBJV) SHE system, designed to carry out inspections, advise on hazardous activities and provide recommendations.

Due to the nature of work at Devonport Royal Dockyard, BPSS/SC level of security clearance is required, only candidates holding NATO member passports can be considered and must have lived in the UK for more than 3 years.

Your mission

As a Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Being one of the key contacts for Health & Safety on our major civil engineering project.
  • Reviewing project safety standards and procedures to ensure all legislation is complied with and providing support to the Kier Infrastructure business unit and KBJV on Health & Safety issues.
  • Working closely with the operational teams, conducting site inspections, and ensuring the appropriate action plans have been put in place and followed through.
  • Assisting management in Health & safety training and assisting in developing toolbox talks.
  • Supporting audit programs to ensure management system compliance.
  • Supporting the Civils Health & Safety Lead in delivering health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy actions.
  • Leading a team of Snr H&S Advisors and H&S advisors within your area of responsibility.
  • Conducting Accident & Incident Investigations in a robust and timely manner.

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice or the NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals.
  • CSCS White - AQP/PQP or CSCS Black - Managers.
  • Membership of relevant professional institution (e.g., Tech IOSH or above).
  • Experience working as a H+S Manager.
  • Accident/Investigation Qualification (e.g., Kelvin TOPSET, ROSPA or NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation).
  • Extensive experience in similar or supporting post - Leading SHE functions in large organisations.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001/ BS OHSAS 18001 Standard.

Desirable:

  • 5 Years practical HS&E experience.
  • Experience of working in construction and heavy civil environment (CDM Designers)
  • Environmental qualification (IEMA or equivalent).
  • Auditing qualification.
