Main duties of the job

What You'll Do:

Lead with Purpose: Provide effective leadership and day-to-day management for our Employee Relations and Workforce services, ensuring they meet the highest standards of excellence and compliance.

Innovate and Improve: Work closely with the Deputy Director of Workforce to reengineer transactional processes and spearhead strategic projects that elevate our services and tackle key challenges head-on.

Build Relationships: Develop and maintain positive relationships with Trade Union colleagues and lead consultations on vital workforce issues, ensuring collaborative and constructive outcomes.

Strategize for Success: Implement and lead workforce strategies aligned with the Trust's People Plan, driving the delivery of strategic priorities and enhancing organizational performance.

Governance and Assurance: Lead on workforce transaction and reporting, ensuring the Trust meets all statutory and other obligations. Develop robust systems for tracking and compliance, safeguarding personal information, and managing risks effectively.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uphold Trust policies and provide top-notch advice in line with employment law.
  • Lead and manage Strategic Workforce and OD Governance Service, covering Resourcing, Payroll, and Employment Services.
  • Ensure the Trust meets national compliance standards and maintains clear risk management arrangements.
  • Drive effective workforce resourcing to ensure the Trust has the skills and numbers needed for high-quality service delivery.
  • Lead initiatives like International Recruitment, E-rostering, and Living Wage implementations.

Professional Leadership:

  • Offer expert consultancy advice to support effective staff management and organizational performance.
  • Foster a culture of continuous development and improvement within your team.
  • Establish and monitor systems to ensure reliable Employee Relations and workforce transactional activities.

Governance and Risk:

  • Lead on workforce governance, ensuring compliance and managing workforce information effectively.
  • Respond to audit reports and lead on action planning to implement required changes.

People Management:

  • Enhance team skills and competencies to meet organizational objectives.
  • Ensure professional development and high-quality, customer-focused service delivery.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Masters level in relevant subject such as HR, Management, OD or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Member status of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development or equivalent professional, accredited recognised body

  • Demonstrable experience of design, delivery and evaluation of workforce and OD service improvement interventions working with Subject Matter Experts / Advisors and multiprofessional groups at a senior level.
  • Leading and managing directly employed staff and associated budgets
  • Significant demonstrable expertise in systems and processes and the application of these to a shared service environment.
  • Developing and monitoring service level agreements (SLAs) with internal and external providers
  • Business planning
  • Senior management experience in the NHS
  • Experience of delivering strategic objectives for a diverse and complex department
  • Experience of effectively working at management level in the field of HR for an organisation of relevant scale and complexity.

Disclosure Barring Certificate check

All of our new starters, who are appointed to a post which requires a Disclosure Barring Certificate check (DBS), will be recharged for the full cost of the check (DBS checks for volunteers are free of charge).

An enhanced DBS check costs £38 and a standard check costs £18 (plus an administration charge of £3.50). If you are a substantive member of staff, the full amount will be taken from your first month's salary.

If you are a member of staff on our bank, you will need to repay the full amount from your first salary.

We encourage you to register with the DBS update service at an annual cost of £13 (this is mandatory for bank staff).
