King's Volunteering provides a platform for students, staff and third sector partners to access, promote and evaluate volunteering opportunities.
The team sits within IES, a new Directorate in King's that brings together the expertise of teams engaging with communities and partners locally, national and globally. The Directorate provides strategic leadership for the university's engagement at home and abroad, while providing a home for a portfolio of innovative programmes that generate and measure impact and serve the communities we work with and for.
About The Role:
The Head of Volunteering will lead on the development and growth of King's Volunteering. The team consists of a Volunteering Partnerships Manager, Volunteering Engagement Officer and a part-time Volunteering intern, and is based within the broader Service and Impact team, in the International, Engagement and Service (IES) Directorate.
The role holder will drive an ambitious delivery plan for the volunteering service, consisting of events, internal engagement activity, third sector partnership management and evaluating impact. Building relationships internally and externally is key to the role. Essential for success in the role is an ability to analyse data and feedback to drive continual improvements to the service. This is a full-time post, offered as a secondment for a fixed period of 12 months.
About You:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Educated to degree level or equivalent.
2. Understanding of global societal issues and the role of volunteering in addressing them.
3. Experience in developing frameworks for understanding, measuring and reporting on volunteering impact.
4. Experience of communicating, presenting and reporting to a variety of audiences (e.g. internal/external; technical/non-technical).
5. Ability to build relationships across organisational boundaries, demonstrating tact and negotiating sensitively.
6. Adept at engaging with sponsors and stakeholders, including with senior colleagues and externals, adapting message, style and manner as needed.
7. Highly numerate and analytical; can develop actionable insight form multiple and complex data sources, and construct and monitor budgets.
8. Excellent management skills, including experience of developing and supporting line reports and managing a successful team.
9. Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure, with excellent time management and organisation skills.
10. Flexible, emotionally intelligent, and comfortable with ambiguity.
Desirable criteria
1. Knowledge of the Higher Education sector including working with academics, professional services, students and alumni.
2. Experience as a volunteer.
