As we pivot towards a video-led strategy, we're driving a bold transformation to create innovative, original video content that will redefine our future. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a historic brand shift into a dynamic multimedia landscape, using exclusive video to connect with new audiences and grow revenue streams.
Your Role: As Head of Video Distribution you will be responsible for ensuring maximum exposure of The Sun's best in class Originals and News content across all platforms, including YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. You will help define the workflows between video and audience teams to ensure smooth delivery and distribution of video, as well as advise on best practice, report on success and share learnings.
Day to day you will:
- Implement workflows: Manage processes to ensure video and audience teams publish videos in a timely and efficient manner.
- Best Practice: Set clear guidelines on optimal packaging of video content from thumbnails to titles and ensure distribution teams meet those expectations.
- Forward Planning:Work closely with Commissioning Editors to forward plan, devise schedules and communicate distribution strategies to key stakeholders for Sun Originals and News video.
- Audience Engagement: Understand what captures attention in the fast-paced digital environment and recommend content that drives conversations, shares, and engagement across multiple channels.
- Platform Optimisation: Analyse data to ensure all video content is tailored for various platforms, optimising for different algorithms, audience behaviours, and content formats across YouTube, social media, and the website.
- Industry Awareness: Stay ahead of digital video trends in news, lifestyle, showbiz and sport, not afraid to suggest new ideas, formats and approaches to driving audience engagement.
- Traffic-Driven Strategy: Use data-driven insights to inform your distribution decisions, focusing on creating high-performing content optimised for page views and video plays across platforms such as YouTube, the website, and social media.
- Competitive Strategy: Continuously analyse competitors and market trends, using insights to refine The Sun's multi-platform approach, ensuring we maintain a competitive edge.
What we are looking for from you:
- Digital Native: You are deeply immersed in the digital media landscape, with an intuitive understanding of what drives video views and engagement at scale.
- Data-Driven & Results-Oriented: You understand how to use analytics to inform content strategy and have a proven track record of driving audience growth and increasing video views through perfectly executed distribution.
- Cross-Platform Expertise: Excellent understanding of social media, SEO and creating engaging, optimised content for different platforms, especially YouTube and Facebook.
- Monetisation Specialist: YouTube monetisation expert with an excellent understanding of advertising formats, policies and products, including channel memberships. Plus a solid grasp of FAST TV distribution and revenue opportunities.
- Editorial background: Newsroom or storytelling experience, with a clear understanding of the content demands of The Sun's audience.
- Creative & Fast-Paced: You thrive in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment, always ready to capitalise on breaking news or trending sports events to create impactful video content.
- Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with team members, stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Proactive & Adaptable: Highly proactive, with the ability to balance multiple priorities, work under pressure, and adapt quickly to changes in the digital landscape.
