Who we're looking for
The Head of Valuation will play a crucial role in establishing a valuation function for Future Growth Capital. This position will involve developing processes and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory developments related to FCA and AIFM regulations. The Head of Valuation will be responsible for executing the monthly and quarterly valuation processes for our semi-liquid product offerings. You will be instrumental in the valuation of our direct debt and private market fund investments, the ongoing monitoring of our portfolio investments, and in advancing tools and processes through the use of technology.
The position will offer a fast-paced and intellectually challenging work environment that offers accelerated exposure to private markets and increasing responsibility.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn new skills and knowledge within the private market space.
About Future Growth Capital
Phoenix Group, the UK's largest long-term savings and retirement business with 12 million customers, and Schroders, the global investment manager with a £74bn private market capability, have formed a new strategic partnership, Future Growth Capital.
Future Growth Capital (FGC) will, subject to all regulatory approvals, support the objectives of the UK's Mansion House Compact, unlocking investment opportunities in private markets for millions of new pension savers to benefit from the diversification and investment return opportunities that unlisted assets can offer.
FGC aims to deploy an initial £1bn and £10-20bn over the next 10 years into UK and global private markets. Phoenix Group intends to invest a significant percentage of its relevant savings products on behalf of its policyholders, in line with its Mansion House Compact commitment. This will provide scale at inception, with ongoing fundraising led by both Schroders and Phoenix Group.
The new investment manager will design and manage UK and Global multi-private asset solutions for UK insurance and pension clients to open access to a broader range of innovative companies and investment opportunities for millions of UK pension clients. Initially it will leverage Schroders' pioneering Long-Term Asset Fund (LTAF) investment platform, providing investment advice to the fourth and fifth LTAFs planned for launch by Schroders' dedicated private markets business, Schroders Capital, in the UK.
A key focus of FGC will be investing on behalf of pension savers to grow the UK's companies of the future. FGC will provide long-term financing for innovative, growing businesses, helping to create jobs and boost the UK economy. As a major investor in the UK's private markets, it will help to develop the UK private market ecosystem and to promote the UK as an attractive private market investment destination.
What you'll do
- Lead the valuation function and co-ordinate with the underlying Schroders' valuation teams, providing guidance and support to team members to drive performance and professional development.
- Develop and implement processes, policies, and procedures in alignment with regulatory standards
- Liaise closely with shareholders, standard setters, and regulatory bodies on valuation-related topics, demonstrating the effectiveness of the valuation process and the validity of valuation conclusions
- Represent Future Growth Capital on valuation topics to investment consultants and clients
- Develop and oversee the valuations and portfolio monitoring of our direct and co-investments, primary and secondary fund investments across a broad array of private market strategies
- Produce concise, informative valuation reports for a variety of recipients (such as boards, audit committees and investor communication)
- Collaborate with external valuation providers where relevant
The Knowledge, experience and qualifications you need
- 10+ years of experience in the financial industry within the area of valuation or deal advisory
- Experience of building and managing a valuation function
- A self-directed individual with experience in executing valuation processes under time-sensitive deadlines
- Strong familiarity with the principles and methodologies used in illiquid assets' valuation
- Proficiency in using MS Office, Capital IQ, with knowledge of programming languages and analytics' tools
- Degree in a relevant discipline such as business, finance or accounting (MBA, CFA charter holder or similar designation would be considered a plus)
