As Head of Trading for our Insurance Broking Business (SSL), you will be responsible for driving the trading agency and leading our high-performing Trading team. You'll ensure the delivery of all commercial initiatives across our entire product range-home, Motor, Travel, and PMI.

Our vision is to be a trusted brand among the over-50s. You'll leverage internal and external data to develop and implement creative trading solutions that drive all core financial metrics and deliver good outcomes for our customers.

You will coordinate the planning and forecasting process, working closely with the finance team to ensure ownership and management of the revenue component of the P&L. As a natural leader you will use your influence and communication skills to proactively engage with key stakeholders across SSL and AICL (our in-house underwriter), and take an active role in the broader trading agenda.

We offer flexibility over where you work - you choose a place where you feel most comfortable and productive, either from home or in one of our hubs in London or Kent. We come together with a purpose to collaborate, typically twice a month at our London Hub in Kings Cross.

Role Responsibility

As our Head of Trading you will be working with the Chief Commercial Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer to lead on the trading agenda through effective collaboration across the whole insurance product range (core and add-ons), and will be responsible for the revenue and policy volume components of the P&L.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Co-ordination of activity across Marketing, Product, Pricing, Operations and Finance teams to deliver short and longer term trading goals, the business plan, and delivery of additional growth initiatives with a strong focus on execution
  • Work with the Marketing team to identify opportunities to fully leverage PCWs and Direct channels for new business and develop strategies to maintain the portfolio mix towards direct.
  • Chair weekly Trading Steering Group and have responsibility for the oversight and production of a 'trading pack' that includes a high-quality executive summary along with recommendations designed to deliver maximum business value and good customer outcomes.
  • Ownership and development of external data and competitor analytics by improved utilisation and optimisation of existing resources to augment internal management information in order to facilitate improved decision making.
  • Develop significantly improved insight of the UK population compared to the Saga Insurance portfolio, identifying areas of relative under-penetration. Work with key stakeholders to develop strategies to close these gaps.
  • Bring the 'outside in' - deliver a step change improvement in identifying emerging market trends and activity and feeding this into trading proposals.
  • Working alongside product teams to drive additional customer growth through delivery of new products.
  • Management and coaching of the trading team of 5 FTE, driving a growth culture and continuous improvement.
  • Proactive personal engagement with AICL team and active participation in AICL weekly trading dialogue.
  • Maintaining a current awareness of the regulatory agenda and how this impacts personal lines insurance.

The Ideal Candidate

To be our Head of Trading, you will need to have significant experience within UK Personal Lines Insurance, preferably in a commercial environment.

You will need to have strong knowledge of FCA GI Pricing Practice Requirements and experience in trading Homes and Motors. A broader awareness of regulatory agendas, as well as Pet and PMI markets, would be desirable.
