Purpose of the role:

The primary focus of the role will be to support the finance team with all tax-related matters as well as managing the Group's UK corporate tax including a significant R&D tax credit claim, engaging with the business and tax advisors to ensure that tax reporting and tax compliance are completed correctly and on time. The role will also provide support for all other tax matters, for example being the company's main liaison point with HMRC and assisting/leading on employee and international tax issues as they arise.

Key Accountabilities:

Corporation Tax

  • R&D RDEC claims - to engage with the business (project managers and technical leads) to understand and analyse qualifying R&D expenditure, to prepare calculations and analysis to support R&D tax credit claims. Liaising with R&D tax advisors to facilitate their review and ensure claims are correctly prepared
  • Project manage the preparation and submission of corporation tax returns for all companies, including iXBRL tagging, provision of tax sensitive information and capital allowance analysis
  • Work with the finance team to ensure tax figures are prepared ready to post for month end, and, working with our compliance tax advisors, to prepare disclosures for external reporting
  • Working with Financial Planning team to advise tax figures for forecasts and budgets
  • International corporate tax - manage non-UK tax implications for group, engaging with local advisors as required, such as non-UK filing for overseas entities, withholding tax (WHT), permanent establishment, and transfer pricing aspects

    Employee-related tax

  • Manage tax-related employment/ payroll queries including international payrolls, global mobility, PAYE, expenses, off-payroll working, liaising with the Group's employment tax advisors as necessary
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of P11Ds, review of P11D data prepared by payroll
  • Manage PAYE Settlement Agreement process
  • Preparation and filing of Employment Related Securities (ERS) Returns
  • Support the FC with employee share option scheme administration and calculating/processing PAYE and NI contributions through payroll

Other areas

  • Liaise with HMRC and our tax advisors on all tax issues
  • Support CFO and Financial Controller with international tax matters, transaction advice and group structuring
  • Support on VAT compliance and access to VAT advisory services as needed

Strategic Deliverables

  • Annual submission of Tax Strategy and Tax Policy for Board approval
  • Working with Commercial Team to support target and existing commercial partnerships on tax matters - including WHT, VAT
  • Timely R&D Tax credits and WHT exemptions/recovery

Knowledge and skills required for the role:

  • ACA and/or CTA
  • Several years UK corporate tax experience
  • R&D tax relief claims
  • Tax accounting under IFRS
  • Technically confident while risk aware

Desirable

  • Management of external advisors - scope, tenders, fees
  • Employment related tax matters including P11D, PAYE Settlement Agreements and share options
  • Interest in the Clean Energy and /or technology sector
