Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Sustainability to drive our Sustainability function. Working across the business, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing sustainability strategies whilst navigating the complex changes required across governance. They will ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, foster a culture of sustainability, and leverage our content to drive positive environmental change. The candidate will also be required to liaise with Bertelsmann's corporate responsibility team along with external partners, monitoring adherence to best practice and spotting opportunities to accelerate progress. This is a unique opportunity to super-charge the sustainability agenda of a prominent, global media company and contribute to long-term environmental and organisational goals.

The Head of Sustainability reports to the General Counsel and the Chief Finance Officer and works with stakeholders across Fremantle's global production companies.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Strategy Development: Create and execute sustainability strategies to reduce environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, and achieve sustainability goals.
  • Carbon Footprint Measurement: Develop and implement systems to accurately measure the organisation's carbon footprint across all operations.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Work with the Environmental Data Analyst to manage the collection and analysis of environmental data to track targets and identify areas for improvement.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Work with colleagues in Financial Reporting to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards and prepare regular sustainability reports for stakeholders.
  • Governance: Work with internal audit teams and ensure up-to-date governance and controls across reporting, compliance and targets.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and industry organisations e.g. BAFTA albert, to establish best practice and accelerate progress.
  • Supply Chain: Establish environmental supplier policies and enablers to shift the supply chain towards a cleaner and greener production industry.
  • Education and Advocacy: Promote environmental awareness and best practices across the organisation through training, events and communication.
  • Climate Content: Collaborate with editorial and creative teams to ensure sustainability is integrated into all content, driving behaviour change among our audiences.
  • Innovation: Stay updated with the latest sustainability trends, technologies, and best practices, and integrate them into the organisation's operations.
  • Management: Work with and manage Sustainability Managers, Consultants and the Environmental Data Analyst to achieve targets and KPIs.
  • Communications: Work with internal comms and key sponsors to promote a culture of sustainability in our production workforce, including writing and circulating best practice resources, guidance and case studies. Work with Press and PR teams to ensure external communications accurately reflect sustainability activities.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Passion for sustainability and a commitment to driving meaningful change.
  • Ability to foresee/identify challenges, solutions, and opportunities, develop and implement strategic initiatives and manage complex projects.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage globally diverse senior stakeholders, who are often operating under tight timescales and managing numerous competing priorities.
  • Detailed understanding of the science behind Climate Change and associated global environmental and ecological issues.
  • Expertise in environmental regulations and compliance standards and proficiency in sustainability reporting tools and software.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of corporate, production, editorial, reputational and environmental risk and legislation.
  • Good understanding of the production processes of all genres and of the global broadcast and production industry landscape

Required Training and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in sustainability, environmental management, or a related field, with a proven track record of managing sustainability projects.

Job impact

As this is a role that spans an international production market, there may be times when there are conflicting interests and external demands outside of a UK 9am - 5pm work pattern. It's important you can demonstrate resilience and flexibility in your approach to work and an awareness of the production process; working to deadlines and timescales that may change due to production demands.
