Base Location:Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland.

If you live outside of Scotland, we can offer relocation assistance and are open to discussion.

Salary:£99,000 - £148,000 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSEN Transmission is at the heart of the just transition to net zero in the UK. In the coming years, our network will be pivotal in connecting and transporting the power needed to decarbonise the UK's electricity network and in doing so power the UK's net zero ambition. Our business is rapidly growing, to deliver the largest investment package that Scotland's electricity system has ever seen, with a projected investment programme of over £20bn in the next 10 years.

As Head of Strategy at SSEN Transmission, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of SSEN Transmission at a pivotal time in the energy industry, with your expertise being relied on to advise the SSEN Transmission Board and Executive Committee of external and internal factors that impact organisational strategy and delivery whilst identifying future business growth recommendations. This role will report to our Director of Business Planning and Commercial.

The responsibilities of Head of Strategy include:

- To co-ordinate the strategic direction and planning of SSEN Transmission working closely with senior executives, in the context of shareholder expectations and market conditions.

- The development of SSEN Transmission's enterprise, sustainability (ESG) and innovation strategies, supported by action plans for delivery, tracking performance and reporting including the publication of annual sustainability and innovation reports.

- Undertake analysis and report on the UK and international market for electricity transmission, the current and future competitors; whilst considering key drivers of growth and change from the GB supply-side market to identify commercial and new market opportunities.

- Responsibility for qualitative and quantitative analysis and research to inform strategy development, including market assessments, financial modelling, trends and future needs analysis, building and testing strategic hypothesis to identify opportunities, challenges, strategic partnerships and acquisitions.

- The development, communication and execution of strategic initiatives, incorporating subject matter experts, consultants, stakeholders and technical experts, both internal and external, to produce effective papers and presentations to communicate strategic proposals and recommendations at both Board and Executive Committee level.

- Internally, direct the communication and delivery of SSEN Transmission's strategy, building strong trusted partnerships cross functionally, with the capability of influencing and interacting with all levels using strong narrative based on rigorous analysis.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Proven ability in managing the operation of a strategic function within an organisation focused on delivery, preferably combined with comprehensive knowledge of the energy industry and landscape.

- Demonstrable ability in assimilating and assessing complex data, concept and ideas, with commercial and financial proficiency ultimately forming measurable strategic goals to achieve short and long term business objectives.

- In depth experience of effective influencing and negotiating with senior stakeholders, customers, external bodies, and industry decision makers.

- Commercial know-how, with the willingness to accept and take ownership, think strategically and create a compelling strategic vision with the ability to effectively communicate this to colleagues and wider stakeholders.

- Experience in supporting, developing, and mentoring a team, to establish a positive, inclusive culture delivering outstanding results and performance.

- Experience in advising senior executives and Board members, building trusted relationships based on common purpose and values.
