About The Role

The Head of Sports Science will lead the sports science department, driving performance enhancement, aiding injury prevention, and rehabilitation strategies for all players within the club. This role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with coaches, medical staff and other performance professionals.

About The Candidate

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of sports scientists.
  • Help to develop a cohesive sports science strategy aligned with the club's overall performance goals.
  • Design and implement testing protocols to assess players' physical capabilities.
  • Utilise data analytics to track player performance and develop tailored training programmes.
  • Collaborate with the medical team to create injury prevention strategies based on individual player needs.
  • Assist with rehabilitation protocols for injured players, ensuring a safe and effective return to play.
  • Help to develop and implement conditioning programmes for players during training and off-season.
  • Stay updated with the latest research and best practices in sports science to enhance training methodologies.
  • Work closely with coaching staff to integrate sports science into daily training sessions.
  • Liaise with specialists, where appropriate, to ensure holistic player development.
  • Conduct and support research initiatives to advance the Club's knowledge and application of sports science.
  • Provide regular reports and presentations to the coaching staff and management on player performance and progress.
  • Engage with players to educate them on the importance of sports science in their training and recovery.
  • Ensure safeguarding standards are met and maintained.
  • Keep own knowledge and skills up-to-date.
  • Active participation in continuing professional development.
  • Encourage good practice by promoting and championing the safeguarding policy and procedures.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Promote the brand identity and increase Club Doncaster fan base through positive service delivery.
  • To undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job.

Person specification

Education:

  • Minimum requirement and undergraduate degree in Sports Science, but preference for Master's degree in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, or a relevant field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five-years of experience in a sports science role, preferably within professional football or elite sports.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing a team and implementing performance enhancement programmes.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Sports Science methodologies and tools.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and performance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a high-pressure environment.
