Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Clinical and Operational Lead for Speech and Language Therapy, taking a lead role in the development of Speech and Language Therapy services and its delivery within the financial resources attributed to the service.

Main duties of the job

As Head of Speech and Language Therapy you will have day to day responsibility for running the service and the management, development and supervision of the team and be the lead of speech and language therapy and dysphagia in the Organisation. You will work closely with the Head of AHPs, General Manager and the Assistant Director of AHPs and AHP professional leads to develop the AHP professions.

You will assess, diagnose and treat clients referred to the Speech and Language Therapy service within your area of speciality, and provide professional advice for Speech and Language Therapists and external partners across the trust.

You will take a lead on clinical governance, policy and priority setting, service developments and carrying out audit and research projects within the service, with the aim of improving service efficiency and effectiveness.

You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of specialist training packages and resources for Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals, this will include developing informal partnership/collaborative arrangements with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals on the management of patients.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC registered
  • Higher level qualification at Masters level or equivalent training and CPD/PDP portfolio

Desirable

  • Experience and/or understanding of the wider health economy
  • Experience of operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment

  • Significant amount of post registration experience
  • Four years experience within specialist clinical area

Desirable

  • Extended scope practice skills
