Lakes College are delighted to be recruiting for a Head of Sixth form role at our new Lillyhall Sixth Form centre.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping a brand-new provision at a time of significant transition, growth and ambition for the College.
We're proud to be launching Lillyhall Sixth Form at Lakes College, opening in September 2026 as a new home for A Level provision in West Cumbria. This development reflects both our commitment to the region and our ambition to broaden the opportunities available to young people across our communities.
This is a unique opportunity to establish and lead a new Sixth Form from its inception, shaping its culture, curriculum and identity. We are looking for a candidate who shares our ambition and is ready to make a lasting impact on the future of post-16 education in West Cumbria.
The Head of Sixth Form will provide strategic, academic and pastoral leadership for all A Level learners, ensuring a high-achieving, ambitious and supportive Sixth Form culture.
The postholder will lead the design, development and implementation of the A Level curriculum, working closely with curriculum leaders, marketing, quality teams and external partners to establish a distinctive and high-quality offer.
This is an exciting cross-college leadership role with responsibility for curriculum innovation, academic standards, earner progress and the delivery of an outstanding student experience aligned with Lakes College values.
Drawing on best practice from high-performing Sixth Forms, the role includes leading the strategic development of the provision, monitoring learner performance, overseeing UCAS and progression pathway, strengthening pastoral systems, and embedding a strong academic ethos that enables all learners to succeed.

Qualifications
Honors degree or equivalent essential
Teaching qualification and evidence of relevant high-quality teaching practice essential
Management qualification at Level 5 or willing to work towards desirable
Higher Degree desirable

Experience
Strong knowledge of A Level curriculum, assessment models, and qualification frameworks essential
Experience of leading or coordinating A Level provision in schools or colleges essential
A track record of improving teaching, learning, and assessment. essential
Experience of matrix management and the ability to influence others essential
Ability to analyse performance data and lead effective interventions. essential
Experience as an A Level examiner with an exam board
