Risk Advisory is a well-established department in the UK & Ireland region of Energy Systems and is primarily responsible for delivery of Advisory and safety management services to ensure that all operations are completed safely. Our team provides high quality services and best practice in risk identification, assessment and mitigation and assist our customers in risk-based decision support. This approach is highly valued through the whole energy value chain ranging from O&G (upstream, midstream, downstream), the evolving hydrogen and CCUS sectors, and in the allied areas of the Energy Transition (renewables).

Our Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Head of Department, the Head of Section will lead a growing Integrity Management team of ~35 people, covering offshore fixed and floating structures, pipelines (transmission and distribution), onshore process plant and increasingly renewables including wind, solar and storage. Our Integrity Management offering provides end to end services including policies, procedures and standards, inspection planning, corrosion control, fitness for service, damage evaluation and failure analysis.

As Head of Section, your main responsibility will be to provide leadership to the technical specialists and to the engineers/consultants through your Team Leads. This will involve coaching, developing, retaining, and recruiting staff, and ensuring that they are motivated and engaged; and that your Section is optimally utilised in meeting its operational targets and objectives.

This will be achieved, in part, by ensuring your Section has the right capabilities and are striving for a high performing collaborative culture which provides individuals with an exceptional employee experience. You will ensure that business development and execution of projects are appropriately resourced with the right individuals, completed within the required timelines and budgets and to the required quality standards to meet customer requirements.

Key accountabilities:

  • Technical Delivery
    • Ensure that appropriate systems and processes are in place to deliver work within time to a high standard of quality
    • Drive a culture of excellence in technical delivery and in project management
    • Identify needs for service delivery, development and innovation
  • People development
    • Support and develop Team Leads, Technical Specialists and delegate tasks and initiatives appropriately. Provide support, management, technical leadership to your team, including mentoring and training
    • Build and strengthen a strong culture based on our Purpose, Vision and Values (PVV)
    • Focus on driving the growth of the business through implementation of people management strategies and a well aligned workforce plan. Ensure the team is utilised at the appropriate level given the mix of responsibilities within the team
    • Develop competency and succession planning for critical roles and capabilities within department. Drive recruitment and staff retention across the section building a diverse and inclusive team
    • Build a culture of learning within the team, and through empowerment, ensure team are supported and developed to achieve their potential and ensure continuous improvement and service delivery
  • Commercial/strategic
    • Work closely with the Head of Department in designing, implementing, and achieving the Departments tactical and annual operating plans, in line with the longer-term objectives of Energy Systems in the Region
    • Plan, co-ordinate, support, follow-up and improve the financial performance of the unit to ensure long term sustainable operations
    • Ensure efficient and consistent delivery of services in line with customer expectations and in line with required standards and best practice guidelines
    • Drive cross-departmental collaboration and work in partnership with the Sales team to provide integrated solutions that meet customer needs
    • Responsible for HSSEQ within the team, ensuring standards of quality, safety and wellbeing are met.

Qualifications

Our Integrity Management Section contains experts from across a diverse spectrum of disciplines and market sectors and therefore as Head of Section, there are a range of skills, behaviours and experience that we feel are essential for you to bring to this role:

  • Demonstrates significant knowledge across the competencies represented in the department; participates in continuous professional development. Capable of understanding the wide variety of markets, buyers, regulators, competitors, and other forces that shape the rapidly changing energy market
  • Commercially aware with ability to manage, develop, interpret and report on key commercial / financial indicators, resulting in a strong positive impact on business growth and profitability
  • Experience of leading and driving continuous improvement in a team, providing them with a positive and reassuring working environment, supporting and encouraging them in difficult times. Has ability to envision and motivate others who don't report to them, to achieve a mutual goal
  • Effectively plans, defines and communicates clear sense of direction, priorities, and keeps team focused on objectives. Allocates resources effectively; monitors progress and acts where deviations are observed. Capable of managing several tasks at once and working under time pressure

Your team is predominantly based out of our Loughborough, Aberdeen and London offices, so it's vital, given the nature of your role, that you're located close to one of these and willing to travel to the other offices on a regular basis. We also offer hybrid working arrangements and support, where possible, flexible working requests.
