The Head of Retail will be responsible for delivering the Club's retail strategy across all channels, maximising revenue, profitability, and brand representation.

Operating within the unique environment of a Scottish Premiership Football Club, the Head of Retail will play a pivotal role during an exciting period as the Club's retail operation transitions back in-house. Sitting within the Commercial Department, this role requires a strong blend of commercial acumen, fan engagement expertise, and operational excellence to drive revenue, enhance the supporter experience, and support the Club's wider commercial objectives.

The Head of Retail will lead the growth of existing revenues from the Hibernian Club Store and online offering, as well as generate new revenues from innovative retail licensing partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Retail Strategy & Commercial Performance
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive retail strategy aligned with the Club's overall objectives.
  • Represent Hibernian Football Club as the one of the main points of contact with the Club's Official Technical Kit Partner when required.
  • Drive year-on-year growth in retail revenue, margin, and contribution.
  • Set and manage retail budgets, forecasts, and KPIs, reporting performance to senior management and, where required, board level.
  • Identify new revenue opportunities, product categories, and sales channels.
  • Merchandise & Product Development
  • Lead the development of the Club's merchandise range, including replica kit, training wear, leisurewear, and accessories.
  • Work closely with kit manufacturers, suppliers, and licensees to ensure product quality, innovation, and timely delivery.
  • Ensure merchandise reflects the Club's heritage, identity, and supporter expectations.

Retail Operations

  • Oversee all retail operations, including stadium superstore(s), kiosks, pop-up shops, and matchday retail.
  • Ensure excellent visual merchandising, stock management, and customer service standards.
  • Manage inventory planning, replenishment, and markdown strategies to optimise availability and reduce stock risk.

E-commerce & Digital Retail

  • Lead the Club's e-commerce platform, driving online sales growth and improving the digital customer journey.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications teams to deliver effective online campaigns, product launches, and promotions.
  • Utilise data and insights to enhance conversion, average order value, and customer retention.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing retail team, including full-time, part-time, and matchday staff.
  • Set clear objectives, provide coaching and performance management, and promote a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, health & safety, and employment legislation.

Brand & Fan Experience

  • Ensure all retail touchpoints deliver a consistent, high-quality representation of the Club's brand.
  • Enhance the supporter experience through product offering, store environment, and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on integrated campaigns and initiatives.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure all retail activities comply with Club policies, league regulations, and relevant consumer legislation.
  • Manage supplier contracts, licensing agreements, and commercial partnerships responsibly.

Experience:

Essential

  • Proven senior experience in retail operations, merchandising, or commercial retail management.
  • Strong profit and loss management experience, including forecasting, budgeting, and delivering against revenue and margin targets.
  • Demonstrable success in e-commerce operations, including platform optimisation, conversion improvement, and online product strategy.
  • Experience managing stock and inventory systems at scale, with strong analytical capability and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Track record of delivering sales growth, both through strategic planning and rapid commercial decision-making.
  • Experience developing and launching retail product ranges, including seasonal planning and critical path management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience working in professional football or elite sport, understanding fan behaviour, matchday operations, and club brand dynamics.
  • Licensing experience, ideally with consumer brands, entertainment businesses, sports clubs, or apparel companies.
  • Familiarity with retail analytics platforms, EPOS systems, or e-commerce CMS tools.
  • Experience developing brand collaborations or special-edition merchandise ranges.
  • Understanding of digital marketing, including product photography, campaign planning, and online content optimisation.
