JOB TITLE: Head of Resilience, Response & Recovery
SALARY: £111,469 to £131,140
LOCATION(S): Bristol, Chester, Halifax, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week presently, or 40% of our time, at one of the team hubs.
About this opportunity
As Head of Resilience, Response and Recovery you'll be responsible for defining and delivering the Group’s Severe but Plausible Scenario Exercising, Response and Recovery strategy, as well as ensure the Group has robust and tested response and recovery plans in place. This will enable us to deliver on our Grow, Focus and Change ambition, as well as our overall purpose.
A customer-centric and people first leader you'll create customer treatment strategies, protecting colleagues and delivering customer outcomes, when operational disruption occurs, be it in house or via a third (or nth party).
Leading a team of experts, you'll work in partnership to influence at the most senior levels, across platforms and the business. You'll deliver both specific and agnostic testing, knitting together the various exercising capabilities available from local outage, through severe but plausible to catastrophic.
In protecting our customers, organisation, and sector, you'll lead operational resilience industry engagements, including with regulators, representing the Group where appropriate to bring thought leadership and insight, and to support industry thinking.
As part of the Operational Resilience Leadership Team, you'll:
- Define, develop and lead the Group’s operational resilience testing strategy and engagement model across the Group.
- Lead the co-ordination of regulatory engagements and responses, including the preparation of materials regarding the Firms testing, response and recovery capability.
- Lead the team to embed the Group Exercising Strategy into the Business, Platform Teams and Group Functions.
- Work in partnership across the Group up to and including CIOs, Platform Leads, Pillar Leads, Group Sourcing & Supplier Management, Enabling Platforms (CSO for Cyber), and Business Resilience & Security Officers to deliver its severe and plausible scenarios testing.
- Ensure the production of SMART scenario testing reports, enabling and tracking remediation through to closure, taking ownership of the relevant scenario testing inputs to the annual Self-Assessment.
- Lead and mentor a team of operational resilience specialists, supporting individual development to help the team achieve their best.

What you’ll need:
- Specialist understanding of operational resilience regulation in the UK, plus strong understanding of international operational resilience regulation.
- Strategist, with proven track record of reviewing, designing, and delivering operational resilience testing strategies across a large financial services organisation.
- Strong operational resilience subject matter expertise and experience within the financial services industry.
- Strong leadership, partner management and collaboration skills, including ability to influence and negotiate with senior executives.
- Experienced leader, passionate about colleague development and growth, nurturing and developing talent both for today and into the future.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication styles in aid of different audiences.
- Proactive self-starter with ability to self-organise, plan and prioritise activities, understanding complex issues quickly and take action accordingly.
- Ability to apply the latest operational resilience thinking to varied new business problems, or creative solutions to traditional problems.
And these would be really useful:
- Positive relationships with a broad network of operational resilience peers across the industry.
- Professional qualification in one of the operational resilience core proficiencies (such as CBCI).
