Role: Head of Planning and Enforcement
Location: Chorley
Contract: Full time (36.25 hours per week) / Permanent
Salary: £68,482 plus competitive benefits

Are you a positive and proactive leader ready to make a lasting impact on planning and enforcement? An experienced and chartered planner, you'll have a strong technical background with a solid understanding of development management, planning enforcement and compliance.

You will embrace the opportunity to lead a licensing team with public safety at the forefront of their operations, and you will also play a leading role in delivery a Building Control function shared with South Ribble Borough Council.

As the Chief Planner and a member of our Senior leadership team, you will be at the forefront of working across the Council to deliver well-managed statutory functions with positive outcomes for our communities.

What you'll be getting up to

  • You'll be part of our Senior Leadership Team, providing leadership across the organisation.
  • You will ensure that the councils' meet their statutory obligations in relation to development management, building control, planning compliance and licensing.
  • You will manage the councils' planning obligations team working to link developer contributions efficiently with investment in infrastructure to deliver timely community benefits.
  • You will make close links with other services to promote a positive impression of your service areas across the borough.

Who we're looking for

  • An experienced and chartered planner with experience of complex planning decisions, ideally with local government experience.
  • A confident people manager with experience in planning enforcement, building control, licensing or a related field.
  • Someone who can think strategically across and outside organisational boundaries.
  • An individual who can use their technical knowledge to advise accurately, whilst building solid relationships quickly.

Other requirements

  • This role requires some travel around our boroughs. You should have a valid driving licence or the equivalent mobility.
  • This role is classified as a politically restricted post under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. As such, the successful candidate will be prohibited from engaging in certain political activities as defined by the Act.
