We have an exciting opportunity for someone with the right experience to join the MSEFT Patient safety Team. We are a small team with a real focus on the patient and staff experience.

The Head of Patient Safety will have a key role in shaping the policies and strategies for learning from incidents across divisions in MSE in order to ensure high quality, safe health care services for our patients.

As a senior member of the team you will be at the centre of this significant change to ways of working, supporting the Trust to embed a proactive safety culture and focus on system improvements that will help us deliver excellent care for our patients.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Patient Safety will provide expert advice and guidance throughout the Trust on the management of patient safety incidents.

We have implemented and developed a Trust wide incident management system and are embedding the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework within the Trust.

You will provide expert advice and guidance throughout the Trust and lead on the Trust processes for patient safety incidents. This will include playing a key part in meeting the requirements of the Patient Safety Strategy, embedding the new Patient Safety Incident Framework.

You will play a pivotal role in supporting the divisional clinical governance teams to ensure that the Trust develops robust systems and mechanisms to ensure that it is continuously and effectively learning from patient safety incidents and risks so that practice is changed.

You will will be responsible for the effective leadership and management of the trust's patient safety team and capable of demonstrating high levels of best practice to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.

You will be an integral support for the organisation's way of working, model its values and leadership behaviours, and champion safe, effective, and personal care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Masters in related subject
  • Ongoing continuous professional development
  • Clinical qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Patient Safety training

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Experience of reviewing and leading immediate response to incidents and serious incident review panels
  • Demonstrable extensive experience relating to clinical governance and patient safety
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from a wide variety of disciplines
  • Demonstrable ability to produce high quality reports and narratives, often within a tight timescale

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of quality improvement and assurance principles and processes relevant to healthcare settings

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
