ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a dynamic and self-directed individual to take up the brand-new Head of Partnership role at our recently formed Universities for North East England (UNEE) collaboration. This initiative builds on existing connections between the partners, while signalling a new commitment to working together more closely for the benefit of the region.

The role holder will work with senior leaders in the five universities to establish and embed the collaboration, shaping and managing its agenda and priorities. The post holder will be employed directly by Northumbria University but will work on behalf of all five North East Universities: Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside.

The key role of the UNEE collaboration will be advocacy, for both the five universities and the broader region collectively.

The role will entail:

  • Within the region: ensuring that the universities' shared commitment to the economic, social and cultural success of the North East is fully understood by regional stakeholders; and amplifying our role in these areas
  • Playing a liaison role with the two devolved authorities (North East Combined Authority and Tees Valley Combined Authority) where there is a collective intersection with Higher Education (HE)
  • Working with public and private partners in the region to develop an overarching narrative to position the region nationally and internationally, with the five universities as a central element of the region's pitch
  • Within the UK HE (and broader education) sector positioning the North East universities collectively as anchor institutions and speaking with one place-informed voice on relevant issues

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating a series of initial activities under this agreement covering the following areas:

  • Policy and Advocacy
  • Innovation and Business
  • Widening Access and Participation
  • Positioning and Marketing the NE
