Head of Operations and Quality - North West England

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Job Description

Marie Curie is the UK's leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness they're likely to die from.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

We want a different society than the one we live in now. Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life, through 3 ways:

  • Growing and transforming our direct care and support
  • Delivering more practical information and support
  • Leading in shaping the end-of-life experience

Your role in our mission...

The role of Head of Operations & Quality has dual core responsibilities:

  • To lead and manage operational clinical and non-clinical services, ensuring they deliver person-centred, safe and effective care.
  • To be accountable for clinical leadership and clinical practice across their place of work, ensuring that a robust governance framework is in place to optimise standards, manage risk, and facilitate an open learning culture to support continuous quality improvement.

In addition to these core responsibilities, you will be part of the senior leadership team for our North West services. The North West includes the Liverpool Hospice and multiple community services as well as a plan to innovate and deliver new services in the region. We aim to meet the needs of more people through direct care, volunteer delivered services and influencing policy and local decision making and require an innovative leader with experience in health care delivery to lead this.

This is an ideal career opportunity for someone with previous success in managing and improving quality and governance within a complex health or social care system. You will provide professional leadership for all non-medical clinical staff across the North West region, taking accountability for the contract management and service reporting for all commissioned and non-commissioned services.

Along with your operational experience, you should also be adept at working with and across professional and multi-agency groups to identify and implement systems and processes that support collaborative working, to ensure a truly integrated person-centred care delivery approach.

Additional Criteria for Success:

  • Senior professional with a proven background in managing operational services within a complex health or social care system which includes managing people, services and finance.
  • Demonstrable experience in governance/clinical governance, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Evidence of managing clinical and non-clinical risk.
  • Registered health or social care professional e.g. Registered Nurse, AHP, Social Worker.
  • Track record of leading teams and services to deliver high-quality, safe, patient-centred care within a palliative and end-of-life context.
  • Experience in using patients and the public in service development along with in-depth knowledge and understanding of current policy and regulatory requirements, and ability to interpret into practice.
