Head of Organisational Development, Equality Diversity and Inclusion and Wellbeing

We are now seeking to appoint to a senior role within the People and Organisational Development (P&OD) function. This is an exciting, challenging role at the heart of our organisation and integral to the achievement of our vision, supporting our newly developed People Strategy. As a senior member of the P&OD team you will be responsible for the delivery of a large element of the people agenda that will strengthen the pursuit of the Trust's vision to be an outstanding healthcare organisation. The focus will be on embedding a culture of collaboration, inclusion, positive colleague experience, engagement, wellbeing and outstanding quality.

Main duties of the job

To support the Chief People Officer in the delivery of our new People Strategy and to take lead responsibility for the design and implementation of key organisational strategies which support the development of our people and organisation, including:

  • Leadership Development
  • Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Organisational Development and Culture Change
  • Engagement
  • Team Development

These areas include compassionate and inclusive leadership, in line with our The DBTH Way Behaviours Framework, culture change, organisational development, talent management, staff survey and pulse checks, colleague engagement and experience, health and wellbeing, occupational health services, equality diversity and inclusion and coaching/mentoring. To lead and manage the Leadership and OD team, EDI lead, Wellbeing team and Occupational Health team. To fully participate in system working across our two Places, two Integrated Care Systems, and the Region.

  • To lead and manage the Leadership and OD Team, the Wellbeing team and EDI Lead in the delivery of the Trusts People Strategy ensuring their workload focuses on Trust priorities and that objectives are met.
  • To support the development and implementation the Trusts new People Strategy which will includes the leadership and organisational development plan, EDI plan and health and wellbeing plan taking specific responsibility for:
    • Working and influencing at a senior level to embed a compassionate and inclusive leadership approach that embraces Just and Learning Culture
    • Working with senior leaders to be a forward-thinking and inclusive people centred employer which embraces and values diversity, difference and lived experience
    • Working with senior leader to implement a Wellbeing culture where our people feel safe, valued, developed, and supported
    • Working with senior colleagues to develop a coaching culture in the organisation
    • Working with other leaders to develop and implement a workstream for talent management and succession planning for all
    • Developing the hallmarks of an DBTH leadership community including networking and learning events
    • Leading the development of a leadership behaviours framework to include the implementation of the national People Plan and People Promise.
    • Work closely with the Quality improvement and innovation team to ensure QI is embedded in the leadership offer and there is synergy across the teams
    • Working closely with the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian to address culture issues through planned and structured OD interventions.
    • Working closely with corporate nursing and allied health professional teams to develop the leadership capability and competencies. Including implementation of the Matrons Handbook.
    • Working closely with the NHS Leadership Academy and other partners to ensure external programmes meet DBTH needs, and participants can be appropriately identified, and career pathways developed
    • Collaborating with other team members across the P&OD directorate and colleagues in the Education and Research directorate.
    • Working closely with the People Business Partners to develop, implement, and monitor significant leadership and organisational development (OD) interventions across the organisation

Take lead responsibility for the following workstreams:

  • People Wellbeing
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Coaching Culture and coaching supervision
  • Talent management this will involve a range of initiatives to ensure all colleagues can explore their potential as managers and leaders
  • Leadership development framework including values and behaviours
  • Staff engagement and experience including staff support networks
  • Be expected to work across divisions, directorates and where appropriate systems and organisational boundaries with a wide range of clinical and non-clinical colleagues
  • Take lead responsibility for Trust-wide OD activities across the organisation complementing the OD activities within Clinical Divisions/Directorates e.g., team building, mediation, facilitation of groups, coaching, mentoring and specific pieces of work
  • Take a lead responsibility for the preparation and delivery of the annual staff survey and quarterly Staff Friends and Family Test including contract management of the survey provider. Take a lead role in the development and monitoring of the Trusts action plan arising from the results and work closely with the HR Business Partners in the development of Divisional/Directorate action plans.
  • Take a lead role in development and delivery of the Trusts approach to equality, diversity, and inclusion. Line manage the Trust EDI Lead
  • Be an active member of the Trusts Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee.
  • To present an assured and professional approach to gain commitment from individuals at all levels both within and outside the Trust. To demonstrate credibility and drive for the implementation of change and the appropriate use of improvement tools and techniques in the design of change
  • To build working relationships and communicate information which may be complex and sensitive at all levels across the Trust. This will include the need to identify and address potential barriers and to demonstrate effective and well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to persuade reassure and manage conflict resolution as required.
  • To be capable of making judgements through utilising analytical skills and assimilating benchmarking and other data, to make justifiable interpretations of information, processes, and behaviours and to be able to propose and plan the way forward.
  • Propose and help shape the development and evolution of our approach to leadership development.
  • Actively facilitate partnerships in support of the wider leadership agenda to promote a whole system approach working across boundaries, agencies, and professions.
  • To develop working relationships with appropriate corporate departments to ensure effective alignment of projects, strategy and improvement, finance, human resources, communications
  • Represent the Trust at various networking groups and external meetings
  • Actively promote and role model positive behaviours, Trust values and a culture of staff engagement and involvement.
