Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional nurse leader to join the Acute and Integrated Community Care Directorate with a specific focus on patient quality, safety and standards of care to deliver a good patient experience.
The Directorate of Acute and Integrated Community Care is made up of 3 service lines, Acute, Urgent and Community Care with a varying range of specialties including Emergency & Acute Medicine, Critical Care, Medical Specialties and 5 Care Communities. You will be a key member of the Directorate working alongside the Deputy Director and Clinical Director as part of a triumvirate team.
If you are a confident, well organised, strong, and a visible leader with high standards, excellent clinical skills and knowledge with extensive experience of working within an acute trust this is the ideal opportunity for you.
We are looking for someone who has a proven track record and substantial experience in the care of patients across a range of specialties and significant experience in a senior nurse leadership role. You should be able to demonstrate dynamic, inspirational and compassionate leadership skills to help us meet the local and national challenges. We are looking for someone committed to continually striving to achieve excellence in patient focused care.
You will be a Registered Nurse, educated to Masters degree level or equivalent and provide evidence of continuing professional development.
Hours per week: 37.5
Main duties of the job
Working under the direction of the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and professionally led by the Director of Nursing the post holder will lead on the following key aspects:
Professional and operational leadership
Clinical Governance and quality
Nursing/Midwifery/AHP workforce planning
Service Development
Managing nursing/AHP performance
You will embody our values, have a passion for operational delivery, a passion for patient care and have excellent communication skills. A proven track record of innovation and success in senior operational and clinical management roles is essential, including high levels of engagement with staff and external partners.
You will be accountable for the professional development of nursing staff. You will provide professional leadership that will enable, influence, negotiate and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders to improve patient care and nurse leadership.
As a very senior nurse, you will work with the Director of Nursing and Quality to ensure that professional standards are maintained across the Trust and that the organisation fulfils in total, its mandatory responsibilities concerning safety, risk and governance.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First Level registration with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council)
- First level Degree in Nursing / Health related Studies
- Masters in Nursing or health related studies or equivalent level of experience and competence
- Management / Leadership qualification or evidence of equivalent level of experience and competence
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Extensive knowledge of current NHS and national nursing polices
- Able to demonstrate the acquisition of additional specialist and in depth leadership/management knowledge (equivalent to Masters level), through training and experience acquired over time. This will include financial, HR and activity management as well as the leadership of a range of clinical services
- Ability to produce regular reports for use internally and externally to the trust.
- Ability to concentrate for long periods for report development and complex information analysis

- Able to make judgments about highly complex and sometimes conflicting facts or situations

- Significant experience of working in a senior nursing role in an acute hospital setting

- Evidence of professional development in relation to personal development and decision making
- Risk management and clinical governance experience
- A sound working knowledge of acute service provision
- Experience of leading and managing others
- Experience of measuring and evaluating outcomes in order to secure improvement
- Experience of leading the implementation of service improvement including complex change management programmes at a management level
