Job overview
An exciting full-time, permanent leadership opportunity has arisen in South London and Maudsley's Capital Estates and Facilities Directorate; focused on ensuring that the Trust is future-proofed, energised, agile and forward thinking in its optimisation of opportunities.
About the role:
• This post is a key leadership role within our Capital Estates & Facilities department and reporting into the Director of Resources, Assets and Sustainability. It is a full time fixed term contract and an excellent opportunity for an inspirational, inclusive values-driven leader, with a strong track record in project, programme and portfolio management and governance.
• The South London and Maudsley Capital Estates and Facilities Team delivers multiple financially significant Capital Programmes, consisting of New Build, backlogs, and Refurbishment projects - delivering priority projects linked to the Trust strategy and addressing Estates statutory compliance.
• The post holder will lead the planning, delivery, and commissioning of significant estate projects across the Lewisham site, including: Heather Close Refurbishment Programme, Plans for Lewisham Lea House, Ladywell Building Assessment, supporting University Hospital Lewisham Master Plan (in collaboration with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust).
• The role involves oversight of refurbishment, new builds, and long term strategic planning for health infrastructure, in collaboration with clinical, operational and external partners
Main duties of the job
• Lead and manage the Heather Close refurbishment programme, ensuring seamless commissioning and operational readiness.
• Oversee the programme management of Lewisham Lea House, coordinating design, construction, and stakeholder engagement.
• Leading the Trust's position on the comprehensive assessments of the Ladywell Building in collaboration with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, to support the delivery of The Lewisham Hospital Master Plan, ensuring alignment with long-term strategic goals.
• Establish robust governance structures to oversee programme milestones, risks, and deliverables.
• Oversee budgets for all assigned programmes, ensuring financial accountability and efficiency.

• The Capital Estates and Facilities team at SLaM is a dynamic and dedicated group focused on delivering the trust's Estates Programmes and projects that enhance the Trust's facilities and support its mission. The team collaborates closely with clinical and operational leaders, external partners, and NHS colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Head of Lewisham Strategic Estates Programme is a senior role responsible for leading the delivery of key estate initiatives, including the Heather Close refurbishment and Lewisham Lea House programmes, while driving strategic assessments for the Ladywell Building in alignment with The Lewisham Hospital Master Plan. The role ensures robust governance, compliance with NHS standards, and effective stakeholder engagement with clinical, operational, and external partners. With a focus on strategic planning and leadership, the post-holder develops and implements estate plans, fosters collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, and incorporates innovative and sustainable practices. Additionally, the role oversees budgets, manages resources, and ensures financial accountability to support successful programme outcomes.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree or and masters degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
- Project Management Qualifications e.g. Prince 2 or MSP or equivalent relevant experience
Desirable criteria
- Management qualification
- Evidence of Continuous professional development - post graduate courses
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience of leading change programmes and project management within large, complex organisations
- Demonstrable success in leading multi-disciplinary estate programmes
- Experience and successful track record of developing and producing project plans and strategies, and complex delivery across a variety of different multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working at a strategic or project manager level in the NHS, and in a mental health environment
- Proven track record of alternative funding acquisition, including public-private partnerships and grants for project support.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and inspire teams
- Proficient in using project management tools and software
- Strong stakeholder management, including working with executive-level partners
Desirable criteria
- Advanced knowledge of NHS finance management and budget oversight
