Richmond Pharmacology is a leading Contract Research Organisation (CRO) specialising in early-phase clinical trials for pharmaceutical and biotechnology sponsors. The Role:

We are looking for a Head of Learning & Development who will manage and lead a Learning and Development (L&D) team, supporting our employees to grow their skills and knowledge, enabling business performance.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing strategic direction for our internal L&D agenda and ensuring that our employees have the tools and learning & development opportunities to deliver in their roles and develop into future experts and leaders. This role requires experience in delivering an L&D strategy and using a variety of learning approaches to grow our people and fast-paced business.

We are currently in the phase of implementing a new Learning Management System (LMS) and so you are required to have previous experience in knowing what a good LMS is and how best to implement it.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Implement a learning strategy in line with the overall Board strategy
  • In collaboration with Head of Departments, track all learning activities and programmes across all departments - internal and external activities as well as academic and apprenticeship courses
  • Implementation and maintenance of an LMS
  • Track and measure performance against overall learning strategy and against pre-agreed specific milestones and budgets, to enable the Board to view performance and value against investment
  • Regular reporting to Executive Board
  • Sourcing/assuring/designing learning courses, career plans, and workshops, in partnership with HR and Heads of Departments
  • Manage academic postgraduate training programmes
  • Co-create academic or commercial career progression programmes
  • Manage the quality and accreditation of training programmes
  • Demonstrate value of training programmes using measures and metrics
  • Obtain funding for training programmes
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders such as universities, to offer our staff world class professional development opportunities (e.g., MSc, PhD, PMST)
  • Build and manage budgets and relationships with key vendors, partners and consultants, including universities
  • Lead and engage the L&D team in delivery of the strategy and plans

Additional Responsibilities

  • Create innovative learning experiences that fit for our culture and audience combining face to face and digital experiences
  • Partner with the wider HR team to ensure a strongly aligned set of priorities to accelerate business plans, particularly career planning and talent management
  • Use a variety of learning methodologies, techniques, concepts, learning tools and practices to ensure maximum effectiveness of learning
  • Ensure that Richmond Pharmacology is compliant with regulatory guidelines, Health and Safety and other mandatory policies and procedures by ensuring employees have completed the relevant and appropriate training
  • Support the HR Team with generalist activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years experience within L&D/HR, and most recently in a leadership role
  • HR Generalist experience
  • A degree level qualification in HR and/or L&D
  • Experience in selecting and implementing Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly Cornerstone.
  • Ability to promote purpose, belonging, achievement and positive relationships within the business.
  • Extensive experience in organisational change and transformation.
  • Extensive experience in developing and embedding Training Needs Analysis: Identifying the learning needs of employees and assessing gaps in knowledge and skills.
