As Head of Insurance MI you will provide judgement, expertise and knowledge to deliver timely and accurate MI to Saga's Insurance business.

You will be responsible for shaping the Data and MI vision of the organisation and providing technical data solutions. This role plays a key part in leading and supporting a team of 5 developers and change partners who are responsible for delivering Management Information to various stakeholders (including the FCA).

Your role will require extensive collaboration with the DataHub / Snowflake teams across Saga Plc as well as Insurance IT and Change Team, Finance and Product teams.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will have the ability to develop and guide our MI strategy in Insurance, leveraging the data and resources across the organisation.

We offer flexibility over where you work - you choose a place where you feel most comfortable and productive, either from home or in one of our hubs in London or Kent. We come together with a purpose to collaborate, once a week at our offices in either Ashford or London.

Role Responsibility

As our Head of Insurance MI, you will be responsible for the Delivery of timely and accurate MI to internal and external stakeholders (FCA and External Audit)

Other accountabilities include:

  • Building relationships and working with relevant Insurance functions to understand the MI requirements of (Finance, Commercial / Product, Pricing) and logical prioritisation
  • Collaborating with Guidewire DataHub and Snowflake teams to continue to improve resource availability for the Insurance team
  • Manage the financial impact of technical architecture or product changes, in conjunction with the Change team
  • Ensuring technical expertise on MS SSAS Cubes (Tabular and Dimensional), experience with SQL Server procedures and building ETL solutions using SSIS
  • Guiding the organisation towards the use of Tableau dashboards and self-serve models where relevant
  • Maintaining technical documentation and best practices for all aspects of data extraction and transformation
  • Assisting the team with identifying gaps in data sets and ensuring we have optimal data quality for accurate and timely reporting and MI
  • Working alongside the data testing function as a key stakeholder and technical lead on detailed and accurate testing plans
  • Reviewing and making recommendations on infrastructure and technologies used, always striving for continuous improvement and sustainability
  • Championing data quality and integrity, providing support and feedback in order to improve data quality.

The Ideal Candidate

To be our Head of Insurance MI you will need to have significant experience in data & MI within the UK Insurance Industry.

You will need to be an experienced team manager who is an excellent communicator who can effectively partner with the business and manage stakeholders.

Skills required include:

  • Confident building MS SSAS Cubes (Tabular and Dimensional)
  • Experience building ETL solutions using SSIS
  • Experience with SQL Server procedures
  • Data warehouse / Data lake experience
  • Data governance skills, including tools to support
  • Data modelling skills (i.e. Kimball)
  • Experience with cloud technologies (Azure)
