About this Role
As a Senior Leader, SENDCO and the college's strategic lead for SEND, you will model the highest professional standards, exemplifying the college's values, ethos, and expectations. You will contribute fully to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), taking collective responsibility for whole college improvement, high-quality provision, and the wellbeing and progress of all learners.
The role will also include deputising for the Principal in their absence.
Strategic Leadership
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for SEND, ensuring provision aligns with the college mission, statutory duties, and development priorities.
- Contribute to SLT decision making, improvement planning, whole college evaluation, and communication of strategic priorities to staff teams.
- Lead evaluation and continuous improvement of universal, targeted and specialist provision, including off-site and reasonable adjustments.
- Oversee transitions into, through and out of college, overseeing consultations process, admissions and statutory processes and be accountable to the principal for admissions.
- Act as college SENDCO; Maintain responsibility for producing high-quality, accurate EHCP annual review reports in accordance with statutory guidance and enacting/ implementing all requirements as set out in the SEND Code of Practice. It's only about EHCP's.
- Maintain high standards of professional conduct, attendance, punctuality, and time management.
Key Responsibilities of the SENDCO
- Ensure full compliance with statutory SEND duties, including the SEND Code of Practice, Equality Act and EHCP processes.
- Lead the identification, assessment and provision for learners with SEND, maintaining accurate registers, records and provision maps.
- Oversee and quality assure interventions, support strategies and specialist provision to secure strong learner progress.
- Provide professional guidance to staff, promoting inclusive, adaptive teaching and effective use of SEND information in planning.
- Working with SLT and managers, lead on transition planning for SEND learners, ensuring needs are understood and met at each stage.
- Manage SEND resources and staff, ensuring distribution is efficient and aligned with need.
- Review current provision of external agencies' support for SEND (e.g. SLAs, specialist support services etc) and identify potential areas for improvement, advising Senior Leaders on how to ensure cost-effective, high quality specialist support for all aspects of SEND provision.
- Monitor and evaluate SEND provision and report impact to SLT and trustees.
- Oversee and manage examination access arrangements.
- Coordinate with parents, carers and external agencies to secure appropriate support and maintain strong partnerships.
- Promote equality, inclusion and safeguarding across the college.
